The one I wear http://medicalidstore.com/store/WsDefault.asp?One=283. I like it because it's comfortable due to the squared design, inexpensive & looks like a regular bangle. A nurse told me that EMT & ER staff are trained to examine all jewelry ...

I think it is important to wear some kind of id that can give sufficient information in case you are unable to speak for yourself. Medic-alert has a personal data base, can give a lot of medical information to help healthcare professionals care fo...

Hi Angi, Just saw you post on eye problems. Your A1C looks great keep that up. However I would suggest you see an opthamologist not an optometrist. The optha. dialates the eye more and looks more intensly at the retina. My optometrist told me for a couple of years there was almost no sign of diabetes on my eyes and then one day my eye hemorraged and I have had to have extensive laser, and my eyesight is failing slowly. Just had more laser last week and I go back in 6 wks for a re check.

Thank you very much.. it's been a long time since I posted that discussion, and I was initially doing better, but I fell off track again.
Now I have a BIG appointment coming up (the last one before I turn 18) in just one week. I'm starting to record today. And I feel like I don't have time to take baby steps. But reading your post has reminded me that baby steps could be the most effective thing for me.
Thanks very much.

I haven't had laser yet, so I have some of the same questions you do! From initial reading, it sounds like the laser does destroy parts of the eye it cauterizes, but in very small amounts that should not interfere too much with vision--unless you need lots and lots of laser hits. Here's to us keeping an "eye" on the situation!

Hi, Angi. Just saw your comment on the Eye Problems group. Good questions! It's great you're getting an annual, dilated eye exam to keep track of any changes. Is your doc an ophthalmologist? They're not the only ones who can care for diabetes eye problems, but may have more relevant training/experience. Did s/he take a reference photograph of your retinas for future comparison?

What I've found, unfortunately, is that diabetes eye problems can be minor, then "blossom" into more serious problems as we age (even with good control). I'm planning to see a retinal specialist soon because after years of being told I had only minor "background retinopathy," my last annual visit revealed some blood vessel leakage that is causing macular edema (swelling of the part of the eye that sees fine detail). I think laser surgery to cauterize the leakage is in my future. It's great to be able to get more detail on eye issues from this group!

I am not currently on a pump, since I am still taking Metformin and Glucatrol along with Lantus insulin. Eventually, I will be taken off the orals, once that happens and I am completely insulin dependent, a pump my be in my future. I love Dr. Lola, but Mayo is the best in the state! (not only for diabetes)

Hi Angi, I just joined Tudiabetes and wanted to say hello, since we live within miles of each other. I have type 1.5 diabetes and see Dr. Lola Olajide. I was diagnosed ~2 months ago. I'm still trying to understand everything, as new information is comming my way every day.
