Hi Ann, I was thinking of getting a diabetic alert service dog. Can you tell me a little about the process to get one. That is if you don't mind.

Yeah! I do work with a trainer. Beau is already working and going with me everywhere. Nina is our trainer and has extensive experience with SAR and Cadivar dogs. I asked her to help me with this as I don't have symptoms when I go low. She doesn't want to have to reinvent the wheel but it's been a chore to find someone who was willing to tell us what to do and how to do it as they all wanted my money. I don't need another dog! So...

For collecting scent samples we figured we would start with lows, at what point (how low) should I go before collecting the samples. We were going to use guaze pads and put them in a mason jar.

Is this a good start?
Thanks!
Cherrie

Ann, do you know Sue, the lady at the meeting Sunday who has been T1 for 48 years? I don't know how to contact her. I just want to know which diabetes website she uses, and to thank her for attending.

Hello Ann, I am pleased that you, Kathy and Sue were there. I was not expecting the three of you, and it was a pleasant surprise!! I enjoyed the T1 meet-up very much!! I think all of us did. Jennifer could not be there because her daughter was sick and had a fever. It is my understanding that there are usually only 4 people who attend thos meetings (Scott, Dean, Mike and Jennifer). Having 13 people there on Sunday was unusual, even though 2 were non D and 2 were T2D.

It would be nice to go back there again in a few years, but it is very expensive. thanks fo sending me a message, and being my friend!!!

Hi Ann, I just found the group too! It's really neat to know diabetics in the area. And to tell you the truth, I had no idea there were diabetes service dogs. I look forward to learning from you!
