"If you do choose to adjust your Lantus (I think it is up to you if you want to or not), then you should do it step by step. Inject 1-2 hours later one day, then 1-2 hours later the next day until you are at the right time. I hope this makes sense…"

What to do about Air Travel and all the supplies we have?

As a newly diagnosed Type 1(last week), I'll be travelling to Colorado in August(from Virginia). Questions I have. Security...what will I need to do about my Lantus pens? BG monitor, etc? Does it all go through security? How do you handle injecting in public? The time of the flight corresponds with that. How about time zone changes and medicating. Stay with east coast time with injecting and eating??? I feel so stupid asking these questions. I feel like I should already know this. Please add…See More

Hi Anne! I can understand you worrying about the lows especially being new to all this. The best thing to do is test, test, test! I'm sure you know that but that's the best way to stay in good control. I'm glad to hear you've been able to get your A1C down so much! That's great! It can be a lot of work and a pain I know! If you do go on a pump in a few yrs as your DR predicted it will really help in managing things. I resisted the pump for over 20 yrs and only wish I had started sooner! Well if you ever have any questions feel free to stop by anytime!! :) Have a great weekend!!

Hello Anne! I am glad that you finally have the right diagnosis! Starting on insulin can seem intimidating and emotional, but you will have the hang of it soon!

I have had type 1 diabetes for 6 years ( I was diagnosed at 21) and I found that once I really started to understand how insulin works, I was able to manage much better.

What insulins are you taking? How did they teach you to calculate the dose?

Please feel free to ask ANY questions! Also, I would highly recommend the book: Think Like a Pancreas. It is a great guide to life with insulin.
