Actually my surgeon at IU does more transplant sugeries of the pancreas and there is a huge sign at the hospital saying in 2007 Dr. Jonathan Fridell did more pancreas transplants than anyone in the country. He is a noted surgeon and the nicest guy in the world. I sailed though the surgery and went to see the Foo Fighters two weeks after discharge. I only had type 1 for six years prior to the surgery but my hypoglycemic reactions caused clinical death twice and a coma in ICU on a vent and the neurologists thought I'd be permanently brain damaged and have to be placed in an institution. Luckily I didn't lose a brain cell. I'm fairly well educated. I am a Registered Nurse with both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Business Administration. I've worked as a drug rep for 17 years but I had to quit working in November 2006 because I was in such bad shape. I've never gotten an infection since start antirejection therapy even when my husband had a dreadful cold and my best friend had the flu. I just wear a mask when I'm around sick people. I'm sorry about the infections. What does your surgeon say? What antirejection drugs are you on? I'm only on Cellcept, Rapamune, and Prograf and I've never had a side effect or infection. We are CURED of type one. We are not in remission as Saundra Barragan said. We are cured and I am so thankful. Have a Happy New Year and e-mail me back when possible.
Sincerely,
Colleen Myers
Welcome to our family. It is great to have you join us.
I cannot begin to imagine what it must be like to have a pancreatic transplant or what it must be like to be in remission. But I can congratulate you for your courage and tell you I think it is awsome to have you in remission.
I wish you the very best and am so glad tol have you with us.
If you have a second please sign this petition for awareness via Google.
