Medical Update

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 4:57pm 1 Comment

After all of the fighting I finally was approved for Medi-Cal (Medicaid in CA speak). Still have to pay close to $1,900 a month before anything kicks in so now the real juggling begins (only allowed $600 as a single person against my income which doesn't leave much for necessities). First visit with a new doctor who was very concerned about my current state of health affairs and wants me into an opthamologist ASAP since my right eye (retinopathy) is and has gotten worse. Labs tomorrow will…

Updating my Blog...Or Why Is it Taking Me So Long to Respond?

Posted on October 25, 2011 at 12:08pm 2 Comments

Ok folks. Time for an update. I just happoened to notice the last time I was here was August. AUGUST? Where did the time go? Let's see...hmmm. Well in the last several weeks I have had corrective surgery for a male problem, have seen my creatinien, BUN, and other numbers go up and down like a roller coaster, consulted with a nephrologist, met a NEW primary care doctor (who, thanks to my previous PCP, got a head start on my history without me having to start from the beginning), had an episode… Continue

Author's Note: The following was originally posted to my Facebook account on August 18. I am sharing this for everyone who may be following me here at tudiabetes.org (with some additional information that is up-to-date).

I was composing a personal note tonight to some friends here and thought I should write all of you about my health. I want to be straight forward here and tell everyone what has been happening to me in this long journey since February. To…

Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy and Coping

Posted on July 31, 2011 at 4:06pm 20 Comments

Ok, that phrase alone - proliferative diabetic retinopathy - has got to be sending a chill up anyone's spine who is a PWD like me. I've been racking my brain over this for about 48 hours since my diagnosis (Friday 7/29/11). It wasn't a surprising diagnosis. After all I have diabetes since 1989 (22 years this December) and it is a complication that as we get older (44 right now) comes with the…

Hoping you make the most of your time away from work (just read your blog - hit me in the ol' thumper with your words of honesty - as I tend to keep things inside of me - but slowly changing with age ). Get to know yourself - take care of yourself - and things should fall into place. You know you've got us here to gab with - be it good or bad :) Anna aka FatCatAnna from Montreal, Canada
