- In December, 2010 I was diagnosed as an insulin deficient Type 2. However, after digging into my family history, I came up with the theory I might be MODY, convinced my endocrinologist to refer me to Children's Hospital cor genetic counseling and testing and . . . "voila" on August 26, 2011 it became official: MODY3 due to defect on the HNF1-alpha gene, causing insufficient insulin production! I am on small doses of basal (Levemir) and Humulin R for bolus.

Dr. Hattersley had encouraged me to get MODY testing, as he thought I was MODY2 & it would impact my current treatment (I'm pregnant). I'm seriously considering it. I so hope this isn't too personal, but I'd love to hear about your experience with the testing & if you'd recommend it whenever you had a chance!
