My Birthday (31st) /DiaBirthday (29th)

Yep folks it's one and the same, I was diagnosed with D on my 2nd birthday. I don't remember of course, but when I ask my Mum about that day she sometimes still cries...I don't know how to feel about that.

I was pretty proud to reach my 29th actually, which was kind of weird for me because I've never really thought about it, but as I get closer to the 30th, I'm thinking I should celebrate it in some way.

Anyone got any fabulous DiaBirthday bash ideas or experiences?

Believe it or not, D is not my fault...

I was to visit a very good friend of mine this morning whom I've know forever, but couldn't get my BG to go up, so I called to let her know that I couldn't drive yet because I'm low but give me some time and I would be straight over. She says "You're low, why what did you do?". I replied "I didn't do anything" and said I'll call when I'm feeling better.

I was really angry. What did I do?...I wanted to scream at her "NOTHING, I DID NOTHING, IT'A NOT MY FAULT!!!" I'm so tired of being made to fee… Continue

A confession

OK, here goes...I haven't changed my lancet in months. So long in fact, that I can't be sure just how many months....and I don't care....

Hi Bec,

First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Second, thanks for the friend add! I do pretty well with keeping my BG level when I ride or workout. I usually drop my basal rate to 45% for the duration of my exercise. Are you having some issues one way or the other with you BG? What sort of exercises are you doing? I would be glad to help! You can also check out my blog where I write about diabetes, cycling, life, and everything in between!

Bec, Thank you for the kind words about my blogs... I am only writing from my real life experiences (from the heart), they may not be squeaky clean Diabetic blogs but they are my life. Please stop by my page anytime and say "hi" or whatever you like.

Hope all is well in sunny Australia!

Hi Bec You asked about Fragile X Syndrome - I am a carrier and my third child is affected by it. You can find out more about it at the Aussie Fragile X Site which I run along with its forums.

Hey Bec! Thanks for your message, it is so nice to have people to chat to. I see you have been diagnosed for a long time, how are you coping with everything after that time? I was diadnosed T1 about 4 months ago at 32! Coping ok, having sites like this one makes it so much easier! xx

Hi Bec,
Thanks for the welcome. Great to hear from a fellow Australian.
I love your confession - I've only been diagnosed for 3 months and have been testing regularly three times a day. The last week or so I've been feeling guilty about using the same lancet for my dinner and 2hr after readings. Before that it was a fresh lancet every time. I even thought about getting a proper sharps disposal bin but decided just to recap them instead. I might have to live dangerously and see if I can push myself to go a whole week on the same lancet.
Thanks again for the welcome.
