Levemir and Novorapid

Posted on December 5, 2012 at 3:54am 2 Comments

Hi All,

Well, I do not know where to start.

I was in mixtard 30/70 for two years and I had a bad control with it - i guess because of slow effect of 30% insulin - it was unpredictible for me to match up with meal.

I started to educate myself; I read the diabetes solution and think like pancrease books and convinced my doctor to start with Novo rapid and Levemir, as I saw that this regime of insulin is preferred for better control in these books somehow.

one and half…

It is shocking and frustrating when an endocrinologist is not as aware about the realities of diabetes and its treatment as I am. My doctor should know more than me, and should have my best interest at heart (not the interest of the pharmaceutical companies!).
Probably a good place to look for a qualified physician is at a diabetes center, not any random clinic.
It looks like you're on the right track to help diabetics with their diabetes already. Writing a blog and writing articles for that website is an excellent resource for diabetics. I also want to help in any way. I want to look into reaching out to more diabetics in the area and see if I can do informal gatherings and community activities. Thanks Belila.

Ha ha, I should have specified that I was talking about the traditional Egyptian barley dish called "belila" :) I am very intrigued by your post about high intensity exercise and its impact on blood glucose levels. It's true, my doctor also told me that when I do intense anaerobic exercises, other hormones are stimulated and released in the body that have the effect of increasing blood glucose, thanks to the work of the liver.
I think that what you are writing about calculation of insulin-carb ratios and sensitivity factor are very important things. Inshaa Allah I hope many people benefit from this. It seems not a lot of people in the Middle East are as up to speed on diabetes knowledge and best practices, so thanks and keep it up!

Hello Belila (I used to love to eat belila!). I checked out your blog--very interesting posts. I am also a serious low-carber. I am always astonished by the doctors who assure diabetic patients that they can "eat whatever they want" as long as they cover their carbs with insulin. This is absolutely bad advice and leads to a roller coaster of ups and downs, as you very well know. Looking forward to more posts. Cheers.

Hello! Thank you for having me as a friend Belila... far away, but it feels like you're right here! That's one of the appealing factors of tu.diabetes. I'm in Canada. I'm a wife of 33 years (hubby is also diabetic), mom to two grown children, a grandma to 3 lovable little boys and a teacher.
Nice to have you as a friend!
Keep in touch,
