Ben

sorry

Just started a new job as a firefighter here in Ontario and cannot have the time off to go as yet since I have not accumulated enough holidays as yet and I will have to work until the New Year at this time.

Hi Ben---
I am part of the Welcome Committee and was just checking in on you to make sure you are aware of all that TuDiabetes has to offer. We would love to hear from you so here is a helpful link where you can read about all the things you can do in the community.

Do come see us again soon, Ben. I'd love to read an update on your story. I hope the job is working out well---tricky for control and timing, I'm sure. My husband is an emergency manager for the city of Portland and works closely with many kinds of emergency workers. I don't remember if he knows a firefighter with the D, but I know there's a member of our mountain rescue group that has been T1 all his life. How he figures it out for those late night calls, I don't know. I'll ask if they know firefighters who might give advice......Take care now...Judith in Portland

Welcome to an interesting site where you can get plenty of inspiration and ideas. My advice as a 91 year, young, geezer, insulin-dependent since 1977,is to have a good diabetic specialist, wear a MEDIC-ALERT identification, it SPEAKS for you in case of emergency, have a DIABETIC BUDDY, someone you are in contact with DAILY, they could SAVE your life.listen to your body, it tells you when to sleep, rest, eat and exercise. n your area you have an opportunity to set up a diabetes support group of fireman, hook up with a local diabetes group and help each other support each. If you need soe ideas as to how to start, my e-mail is clarence.haynes@sympatico.ca ask for AMIGO
