Starting to Pump

After almost 6 years of MDI, Alex will be starting the Omnipod at the end of May. We are very excited and also very anxious about this. I hope the Omnipod was the right decision

Freedom

I was talking with Alex about how I would be so happy if a cure for diabetes was discovered. He asked me what I would do if a cure was found and I told him I would do the "happy dance". "What would you do, Alex?" "I would run outside and yell I'M FREE, I'M FREE!" This made us both fall on the floor in fits of giggles.

Holy Fingers!

Alex getting out of the bathtub last night: Mom, what are all those black spots on my fingers? One look at my face and he said, "oh, from all the finger pricks!"

me: Honey, you know that mom would take away your diabetes and give it to me if I could.

Alex: (expression of disbelief and panic) WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT????? I like my diabetes. I like myself just like I am.

me: Really? Well that's great but I would still take it away if I could.

A couple of silent moments go by........

Alex:… Continue

Hi Beth,
we looked at the omni pod, but thought Michael would lose the remote like he loses everything else! We might switch to something more like that next time, when he is a little bit older. We knew right away we wanted to pump. We have an adult friend who is type 1 since she was 11. She started pumping last year, omni pod, and she loves it. The flexibility with eating is such a joy.
