My Type 1 11-year-old has an immediate and significant blood sugar drop from a hot shower, but he is very insulin and glucose sensitive in all environments, more so than the average PWD. Everybody's experience is different, so what might be a prob...

My grandmother was a Type 1 and so is my father-in-law, so I was very familiar with diabetes when my son was diagnosed at age 9 (but still devastated). Max has been a trooper throughout, and we've finally adjusted to our new "normal."

We are especially proud of Max for winning the Diabetes Mine 2nd Annual Design Challenge with "Maximum Slide," a test strip dispenser (see slideshow).

We are headed to the Children with Diabetes conference in Orlando July 23- 27. Let me know if you are going to be there!

I was sorry to hear about Max. My son Avery was Diagnosed on January 12 2008. Very scary. I feel your pain and concern. I know how scared you must be, cause i feel the same. I hope everything is going good. So far things are going good for my son Avery. We are still trying to get things on track with his insulin. My doctor is still adjusting the insulin. I hope we can get to where he is more stable. I feel that will give me some ease of mind. If you want to talk im here. Lets hang in there and hopefully things will get easier.

I usually try to plan any fundraiser events for Aug, Sep and Oct. and order shirts for the team to wear at those. We already did our applebees fundriaser, but we still have Barnes and Noble, a Wal-mart bake sale and couple of others....if you need a good company- I've got one tht does as little as 25 shirts for about $5.00 ea!

I have to tell you guys -- Max lost his Omnipod PDM riding the Hulk roller coaster at Universal Studios (guess the g-force was too much for the velcro pocket!) We were 400 miles from home on a Saturday night -- not good. My husband called Insulet customer service to see what our options were. John Sandwell, the Orlando rep, hand-delivered a new PDM to our hotel room before we even left the park. AWESOME customer service!

hi Beth,
do not feel devastated, you will help others and support and your son in turn will do the same.
most of my patients want to be like me,because when they are diagnosed and I see this look in their eyes with all comlications they hear about it I tell them do not beleive it because if we contol blood glucose together you will lead a normal life and one day you will be doctors helping the others.

love to Max, show him my photo.this thinking of you teddy I gave to adopted diabetic 6 y old girl,I wrote a poem in english about her,I will show it on my page, now she is writing her memoir abour diabetes and adoption and many things.Art & sport are super for kids to let go of their hidden worries.
