Biomuse replied to Joern's discussion 'Cleaning a dead sensor and re-insert it' in the group Dexcom Users
"OK. Question: will simply shutting down the sensor and recalibrating in place (during a good, level BG period for calibration, which seems to be more important than anything) achieve the same result?"

Biomuse replied to Joern's discussion 'Cleaning a dead sensor and re-insert it' in the group Dexcom Users
"That sensor is *tiny* and the "hole," assuming it isn't entirely clotted over by the time this process is completed, will be the same, inflamed/scarring-activated location that you removed it from. So how would that help, exactly?…"

Biomuse replied to Linny's discussion 'First Big "ol Hematoma!' in the group Dexcom Users
"Linny, it sounds to me as though you sure have used this insertion area before - and like it could use a break. Steer clear of recent sites and rotate, rotate your sites. Have you tried the backs of your arms? I know it's not "officially…"

Biomuse replied to LovetoHike's discussion 'G4 arriving tomorrow! :)' in the group Dexcom Users
"I find that on some first days with a sensor, if: A) The values are way off from finger stick, AND B) you're level (flat arrow on the Dex), AND C) it's been at least ~1hr since you last entered a fingerstick value into the Dex, then…"

Biomuse replied to LovetoHike's discussion 'G4 arriving tomorrow! :)' in the group Dexcom Users
"My point wasn't that you shouldn't be doing what you're doing. It works for you, so obviously you should be doing it. I just wanted to point out that it probably isn't wise to start out like that, that Dexcom itself doesn't…"

Biomuse replied to LovetoHike's discussion 'G4 arriving tomorrow! :)' in the group Dexcom Users
"I'm as big a booster of Dexcom as anybody (I think the G4 is only slightly less important than, say, insulin for modern diabetes management), but even I would never recommend that as a blanket practice. Just like your insulin pump insertion…"

Biomuse replied to cbaer's discussion 'New to Dexcom G4 and travel' in the group Dexcom Users

Biomuse commented on Emily Coles's event 'Live Interview with Drs. Edward Damiano and Steven Russell, creators of the Bionic Pancreas'
"P.S. The closed-loop-assist approach, by the way, takes some pressure off of the reliability of cgm data, getting us that much closer to a FDA-approvable product. Just sayin'."

Biomuse commented on Emily Coles's event 'Live Interview with Drs. Edward Damiano and Steven Russell, creators of the Bionic Pancreas'
"To clarify/sharpen my previous question: Given the kinetics of insulin dosing as it stands and the associated issues, the ideal system will be closed-loop-assisted, as opposed to closed-loop-only. Although the "guardrails" system…"

Biomuse commented on Emily Coles's event 'Live Interview with Drs. Edward Damiano and Steven Russell, creators of the Bionic Pancreas'
"Interested to know whether this system is smart enough to land on its feet in the presence of user input at the pump, which would allow predictive dosing and very likely improve the average bg outcome."
