Hi everyone
I found out I had type 2 in April 2010, when I passed out at work. My glucose level was at 30 and apparently that is very dangerous as you're heading for a coma ... I was widowed in 2009 and the medics told me that the shock of losing my husband brought on type 2. The fight or flight reaction that I had was quite natural of course, however, normally we are in that state for a few minutes. And my body remained that way for approx 4 months. I remember my heart…

- wow, thank you everyone for such a warm welcome. I'm a member of another community which is set up very similarly to this one (for widow/ers) and I'm one of the "greeter" on there :-) so now I can see how good it feels when I greet someone new. thank you all so much. I shall come back in a couple of days to introduce myself properly, but in a nutshell ... I was diagnosed with type II back in April 2010 when I passed out at work. The paramedics found I had blood sugars @ 30 (heading for coma apparently). The doctors told me that the shock of losing my husband (I was 44) suddenly and without warning stressed my body so much that I ended up with diabetes. My biggest issue is that I didn't care if I lived or died for the first year, so didn't look after myself but now I know I have to. I choose life. I've started a blog (http://ning.it/jHc715) mainly to gather all the info and research that I needed to educate myself with and also so that another diabetic widow and myself can motivate each other to control this disease vs. the disease controlling us.
