I was diagnosed after i had just turned ten and spent thanksgiving in the hospital. I have a serious problem with diabetes and keeping my blood sugars in control. I was pretty depressed about it for about 6 years but got help and am on my way to being healthy, I hate my insulin pump. I hate having hardware stuck to me 24/7 365 days. (not saying im not grateful) I tried going back on shots about a year ago but was forced back on my pump after my A1c reached 13. I am Proud to say since finding this website i haven't had a high in six days :D Im very thrilled to have found some support!

My favorite sayings that help me make it and deal are one day at a time( ya know maybe if i can not eat that sugar coated doughnut just one more day or maybe if i just put up with this finger prick just one more day) AND Im six feet above instead of six feet under and can't complain too much.

Hi Brittany, I visited Memphis last year (vacation). I thought it was a lovely city. I did all the "touristy" type stuff. I posted a few pics on my page...when you get a second check them out. Anyways, hope your Diabetes is treating you well.

Cheers!

hey, Brittany, it really sucks, I know, I've had it for 41 years. We're here for you no matter what your a1c is. yes, start with some small goals, like maybe testing more often, and when you do achieve the goal for the week, give yourself a reward. I think it helps if you keep a notebook with as much info about your food and bg and exercise, as much info as you stand to write down. that's helped me a lot. Keep in touch, we want to help any way we can.

Hey Brittany, I feel your pain & frustration. Why not take it one step at a time? Don't give up. Try shooting for A1C of 9, then something lower every 3 months.

On a side note, my sister recently told me that her friend's husband committed suicide after being told that he had terminal lung cancer by two different hospitals. He despaired and gave up. When they did an autopsy on him, turns out he was misdiagnosed, he was cancer-free. If only he hadn't given up on himself, he could've lived a normal life.

Anyway, while people may tell you that an A1C of 10.9 is high, you're still young and time is on your side. Please don't give up on yourself, keep trying. It may not be as bad as you think it is. I get depressed about my T2 diabetes (for me it seems entirely genetic), but I always hope for better meds, bettter technology which I believe will come to us diabetics soon. In the meantime, the only thing I can do is do my part - eat better, exercise more, test often. Best wishes to you.

Hey Brittany, no one can make you take better care. You know you have an issue and you are running very high A1C's. I'm not a Dr. but I know enough to say that it's not just a problem with your body. YOU have to want it enough.

I know it's very tempting to cheat, I know how...I've done it. Maybe it's time to join a support group or talk to a psychologist. There are a lot of people that care that can help you figure out how to get in the game better.

I'm sure plenty of people have told you what can happen. I watched a recent episode of 30 Rock where they made fun of the complications of Diabetes and Tracy was going around with a wheel attached to his foot to see what it would be like to lose a foot. It was funny, but points out that we need to have some fun too.

Bottom line, you will care more when you figure out why you care less today and when you have the right kind of support on a regular basis. Good luck

Jeff

A happy new year 2009 to you Brittany. We have added a new feature to the Glucosurfer that may be interesting for you. Now you can upload your data files of your Medtronic pump (in CSV format). These files will be automatically imported to your Glucosurfer diary. After that you can share your diary with the community to find and discuss possible improvements.

Hi Brittany, better times will come. I can not lighten up your mood but I want to assure you that times of crisis are part of our lifes. Just hold on and continue to be constructive as you are. One step after the other.

I wear flats mostly as I try to walk a lot, but I LOVE looking at heels. So I end up buying too many pairs of heels, and running out of shoes to wear!

Oh, and I love your diabetic cupcake picture.
