I have been diabetic for almost 14 years. Being diabetic has become a family experience on a bigger scale than I ever wanted. I grew up knowing all about diabetes having a dad with Type 1 diagnosed at age 8. At 18 I was diagnosed, my sister was diagnosed at 28 and my cousin was just diagnosed last week. Added to this, my grandmother is Type 2 on insulin along with my grandfather and uncle watching their sugars. So far for me no complications and pretty good health. I want to avoid heart problems, retinopathy, and all the other complications, some my father is already experiencing. Despite a family history like this, my husband and I decided to go ahead and have a baby. Sophie was born in 2007 and so far not diabetic. We worry, but she is so cute we cant let this take up all of our time with her. I look forward to getting to know more people with Diabetes. Support is so important.
