Great news!

When I was pregnant, I avoided fruit at breakfast and increased my basal rates to cover in the morning. It seemed to help. You're not far along enough to be having the hormones fighting the insulin. My kiddos are 5, 8 and 11. Type 1 pregnancies a...

I have no advice for you, but hang in there. I'm sure you're upset at the diagnosis, but hopefully the medication will help you with the pain.

For my most recent pump, I just installed the batteries and messed around with the thing. But for my first 2, I had to go through "training", which was aggravating the 2nd time, as I knew more about it than the trainer. And my doc's office wanted ...

I see nothing wrong with screenings as long as such information is not obtained by insurance companies. I'm sure many people would be apprehensive to allow a screening if they thought their insurance company could use the information against them ...

I've been diabetic for 13 years now, and 3 children later, I can guarantee I wouldn't be where I am without this disease. Trust me, I'd rather not have it, but I've learned to slow down, say NO frequently and be more careful and loving to myself. ...

You should be proud of yourself! Did you get a blue ribbon from your doc? We rarely get the congrats from our docs, but we sure hear about our screw ups!

13 years of diabetes

Today is the 13th anniversary of my diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. It seems a lifetime ago. So much has happened since 1996, I've had 3 children, I've lived with a chronic illness, I've learned more about insurance companies and the nonsense they like to pull on people. Things I never dreamed I'd deal with or experience.

I always feel in a funk around this time every year. I was 28 when I was diagnosed, so I had years of life with no diabetes. I remember what it was like not to have to take my b… Continue

Thanks for your advice on the insurance issue - our appeal won out and Anthem is going to pay for Eric's pump.

Yes, please!!! I have only 6 of the 40 that I need for my part -- having your and your spouse's participation would be SO APPRECIATED!!!

Please let me know if you'd rather download the surveys from my page, or have me email them to you. If you can -- save the surveys to your computer as Word docs, highlight your choices and answers, save changes, and attach in an email back to me at research.diabetes.t.ruth@gmail.com

Your expertise and time are so valuable to this study! If you choose to participate -- THANK YOU!!!!

Hi Cara! I'm wonderful, thanks for asking! I hope your summer is going well too. I'm slowly working through my sensor difficulties and will have another A1c soon, so my fingers are crossed!

Perhaps I will see you at DIVAS in two weeks?

Yay! Another "Cara with a C" :)
That's how I always had to refer to myself. There aren't a whole lot of Cara's in my town. A few Kara's, but like you said, it's not spelled right. LOL

Hi Cara, I too had some problems and was unable to attend. I have arthritis and have rods and pins in my back and both knees replaced and plates and screws in my feet and a shoulder replacement. When we have these drastic weather changes it causes me unable to walk or stand. In fact I ended up at the hospital ER because of my back and spent the day and evening there. I feel horrible that I couldn't go after I had said that I would go and at least sign the book for us all at tudiabetes. It made me very sad not to fulfill my duty.

You married a Missouri grad?! Wow! That would be tough! Missouri DID do us a favor last night though by taking out Oklahoma! We weren't able to get our business done with Texas Tech.

Is Chesterfield down near St. Louis? I know I've seen it on a road sign or something. Do you ever come to Lawrence?

Rock chalk!

Hi Cara, My name is Sandra Burke. I saw your comment you left for Saundra and saw that you were from Chesterfield. I live in OFallon, I just wanted to say hello. I love finding people from our area to converse with. I too am planning on going to the funeral home. I hope that we can converse in the future. Sounds like you have your hands full with your young family. If you have time please write and get to know each other.
