carol, she sounds overwhelmed by the demands and complexities that are normal for type1. Help her to just make a small goal this week, like a little more testing and also counting the carbs more accurately. You can't figure out what's going on if you try to take on too much at one time. Even just keeping a better diary would be a positive step so the doctors can figure out. Would she be interested in joining TuDiabetes? We have a goal of having a loving, supportive atmosphere here without blaming or shaming each other. I hope you saw Manny's recent video, and also read "Our Values" up there under "About Us". tell me if you can't find it.

hi carol,
never give up dear. you never know what will happen right around the corner. you sound like a great friend. diabetes is a never endiing demand upon us that we have to listen to and it's never the same twice, but a tight schedule helps bring it in closer control. if you can, have her start from scratch. testing, testing testing is a big key. then watching those rascaly carbs. hm i don't think i spelled that right, but i'm sure you get the idea. also keep a journal of what she is eating and the bs numbers.
i'm sure it has been very hard on you to go through all of this and not know where to turn. we are here for you and sending all our love and support. prayers too. best of the best to you and your friend.

Hi Carol, your friend sounds very much out of control with a blood sugar of 600 or anything over 200 for that matter. Is she refilling the insulin in her pump every 3 days? Are the connections correct? I would suggest contacting her doctor and getting re-educated as to how to use it. I very rarely have blood sugars that high unless my pump is malfunctioning or I am out of insulin. Testing is key for control whether you are on the pump or not. Sorry to hear she is having such problems, but the pump still demands a regimen of testing and watching what you eat. I hope she can get it together to follow such a regimen or she is not a good candidate for using the pump.
