Living alone with D - Lucky to be alive!

I've been losing sensitivity to low BG's since spring, I now only notice them below 2.0 (36)!
and I've been really scared that I'll collapse one day, and finally I did.

Last night, I woke up in the middle of the night, checked my bloodsugar and it was 1.1 (19.8)!!!
I walked to the fridge to get some juice, but as I got there the juice was out of the fridge, the floor was covered in liquid and one of the shelves were broken, I also noticed that I was bleeding from several places in my face.- I w… Continue

I took my CMAS (level 1) in france when I was 16/17 years old, and I must admit we didn't tell them I was diabetic (because they wouldn't allow it!). My brother joined me on the course so at least he would be able to help me if needed. I have not ...

Hi, Kristin! I have a low every day, and didn't realize how often until my new endo asked me to track them (even found it right there on my meter!) and I average at 3 times a day! I definetly find this is way too much, especially as I don't feel t...

Hi Mike, I'm sorry you had to experience this, and glad you're ok now. I had a similar experience earlier this summer (see my page for the story) - but luckily I regained consciousness on my own. This was the first time I had a seizure in about 10...

Now having read your blog, something you should also consider. You did "survive" it and you have to be careful you don't mentally-spiritually beat youself "worse" that you are physically already bruised. In a crowded room, a subway car, or the to...

Hello Carrie: Fear is a GOOD THING... it teaches us to try and avid the avoidable when possible! Cut back on the insulin for a bit see how that does in terms of the middle of the night ~antics~. You did fine... and you'll make yourself NUTS with...

I agree. I was disturbed to hear/read that "you will not die from a low and that you did not get brain damage/cell destruction. This is misinformation and dangerous. We have to remind ourselves that we are not experts on the subject. We experience...

i think that it is a little overly hopeful to dismiss the idea that lows can not kill you. it takes some time for the resources in your liver to rebuild enough to give you the boost that you need when going out. for some this can be a matter of ho...

I never said that lows or seizures are good things. Just that they will not kill you, at least not by themselves. Anyone can have an accident, whether they have low blood sugar or not. How many non-diabetics hit their heads and fall in the bathtub...

Using an insulin pump has helped me have way less serious hypos. I also have a CGMS, my Dexcom, and it helps especially at night. My problem with night time lows was that I wouldn't wake up for quite awhile, until I was totally drenched in sweat. ...

I wouldn't worry to much about brain damage. The most likely way to get brain damage would be as an injury from the seizure rather than the seizure itself. The brain is still getting oxygen as long as your heart is beating and it's oxygen deprivat...

Keep glucose pills/jells by your bed and have 911 (or a member of your family) on speed dial. You may also want to get a dog trained to identify LBGs. I have been living alone for a long time, but even when my kids were little, I was a single mom....

Carrie: I can sympathize and have been pretty lucky in my life -- despite bad lows, I do not think I have had a seizure, but have certainly had situations when lows are highly disorienting, particularly the ones that happen while I am asleep. I li...

I once had one while in the bathtub. I ended up passing out while in there and swallowing a lot of water. Ended up coughing up blood for a week and was hospitalized for pneumonia. Another time I had one while I was walking on the street; it was wi...

Even though I'm married, 2 months ago I was on a trip and felt one coming on, and it was a 20 - 25 points lower than my previous record! It made me really wish I had a CGMS. That said, before I was married I used to keep my bg up a bit, on the adv...

When I was on NPH I started having hypo unawareness problems because I was running low once or twice a day. I had to let my blood sugar creep up a little higher than I wanted to for a week or two. This did correct the hypo unawareness. I hope you'...
