Emma said… Hi Cathy, been reading some of your comments...just wanted to say that I empathize..I have only been diagnosed a couple of weeks and just coming to terms with it all!
God bless,
Karen x

Linda G said… Hey there Cathy! Nice to to learn a bit more about you!
I was (officially) dx back 1n '06. It was a battle, that, getting properly diagnosed! I'm prone to lows, so for a while my doc attributed it all to hypoglycemia, then dx as pre-diabetic...followed by diabetes. There are good days...and not so good days!!
I'm not retired yet...looking forward to it immensely though!
I can only imagine how stressful your position was!! Teaching
is demanding enough! Not looking forward to going back into the swing of things on the 27th. I blinked, and the Summer vanished!
Too bad your children are so far apart; makes for a busy Summer of travels. I'm fortunate that mine are both here, in the same city....but who knows what the future may bring!!!
Taming blood sugars is no easy task as you well know! My bg is generally higher in the morning if I don't have a snack before bed, due to the liver kicking in to compensate for night time lows.
What are your main culprits to spikes? Pasta and pizza are horrid for me....as are any store bought muffins. Even the small ones! As for cooking. I too cooked more before the dx...but mostly it's a lack of time issue. I cooked/baked much more when my children were small.
Brava to your illustrator friend....my dream has been to write and illustrate a book, but my procrastination has succeeded in putting it on the back burner!
Nice chatting with you Cathy...please keep in touch,
good night....linda

Hello! Thank you for having me as a friend Cathy :)
How did you find out about your BG? How high were they?
I had to fight to be acknowledged, back when I was PRE-diabetic!!!
One of the appealing factors of tu.diabetes, is that you can connect with a PWD anytime & anywhere. I'm in Canada...in the southwestern part of the province of Ontario...a city named Kitchener-Waterloo (2 cities joined together). I'm a wife of 33 years (hubby is also diabetic), mom to two grown children (one 28, the other 26), a grandma to 3 lovable little boys, a teacher, and before that an illustrator (still do some) and graphic designer....I speak French fluently, I read, history fascinates me, I paint, sing, walk, garden, ski, ride my bike....did I mention "read"? I love having friends over, I bake/cook, am an eclectic music lover, an animal lover...the ocean...ah the ocean...it speaks to me! Oh...and I have diabetes (and a few other things).
Nice to have you as a friend!!! Tell me a bit about yourself!
hugs....linda

Doris D said… Thank u for the FR!! Glad to be one of ur friends!

Doris D said… We're glad to have u here with us!!! And ur welcome!
