About me

I was born and raised in Good ole' Arizona! I am a web designer, and on the side I perform in local theatre and music events in the Phoenix area. Music and theatre have always been a passion of mine. I have been diagnosed with Diabetes for almost 7 years, and I know all of you know that it can be an up and down battle. For me, I have always been private about it. I recently have been trying hard to lose weight, get healthy and try to control it the best way I can. Would love to get any feedback or advice from you all anytime!

A1C Results can show your trend.

I am so encouraged today!

I just got a call from my doctor's office. They told me that they had my A1C result...and it was at 6.2! A lot better from the 7.4 I had before. I have been really doing well lately, eating well, exercising and trying to test my sugar levels no less than 3 times a day. I use SugarStats.com because I can print out my results and take it to my doctor. He was impressed by the results, and is going to start recommending it to his patients. He said that it helped him to see… Continue

Sugar Stats reading for last 30 days...

Ok, I have been a little inconsistant, but for the most part added my meds and my readings every day. Missed a couple days, but pretty happy with the results:

Let me know what you all think and any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

A month can make a difference...

I always heard that is takes 30 days to make a habit stick. I have to agree with this philosophy. On April 1st, I had my A1c done and it was a little high at 7.4%. I have since then made a lot of changes. I have been eating really well, eating quality protiens, low glycemic carbohydrates, as well as plenty of fruits and vegetables. I have also been hitting the gym, or finding ways to exercise at least 3-4 days a week. Has not been easy, but I am finally getting there.

I have recently been using… Continue

Well, I suppose if your gall bladder has stopped functioning, and it obviously has not affected your BG....removing it won't make any difference. Good luck with that! As for foods....I know there are "things" I shouldn't have....pork. milk, wheat. My background (french) has many delicious dishes using pork....and no other meat replaces the flavour...but chicken comes pretty close. I don't care for beef....yuk for steaks....LOVE fish and any other sea foods. Have you ever had Emu?....They say it resembles beef in flavour, but has the benefits of chicken.

I've been having a few problems recently (last 2 months), A1c came back as 11.1 (bad news!!) but i'm on it and starting to turn the corner. my A1c prior to that was 7.2 and 6.2 so the doctors aren't concerned too much just need to get things back on track. I put it down to the stress I have recently been under from finishing off my final year at uni. I guess my diabetes has been neglected a little too. But I'm striving to get back in control.
My diet is good, and i try to exercise like you 3 to 4 times a week. Playing a gig is a full body work out, especially when your a drummer, I'm sure you know what I mean? lol

With regards performing, I tend to just eat a sandwich or some fruit before performing and so far its all been good.

Latin percussion? sounds interesting. Do you play with a group/band etc?
