I will check out the CGM. I'm so sure my son will be thrilled with that. But we'll see. I like the idea of a monitor waking him up when he goes low. He receives short and long acting insulin at breakfast and supper. I talked to his teacher and a...

I'm sorry you are having this issues with your son. If this were me, I'd wonder if I took too much insulin at my evening meal. You mentioned you have to increase his insulin during the day. Do you change this in the evening to a lower dosage? I co...

Sorry to hear about the lows! What long acting insulin is he taking and at what time? I actually often have lows 3-4 hours after a meal when my fast-acting insulin wears off. This usually means that I got a little too much insulin for the meal. I...

Lori 2 questions 1 have you thought of having your son use a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) and 2 dose your son take insulin shot to cover meals? I am responding to you at 3:00 am because my CGM woke me up telling me my blood sugar dropped below...

My seven year old keeps having lows after he falls asleep. I usually check him around 10:30 just before I go to bed. A couple of weeks ago, we went to Disneyland and this is when the late evening lows began. We chalked it up to all the walking he ...

Hi Jayson! It's nice to hear from another Edmontonian. Thanks for the advice on the book. I definitely need to read a few books on Type 1. I know I'll be spending a lot of time on this site and I'm sure we will be chatting again.

Hi Chris's Mom. Doris Ann brought me to your attention. My son is 5. Was diagnosed about a year and a half ago. As I understand it this is all very new to you. How wonderful that you have already found this support group. Ask, vent and ask any and all questions you have. It can all be very very overwhelming at the beginning. I remember it well. It does get easier - it really does. I know it may be hard to comprehend that right now, but it does.

Honey, your son will come in his own when he can......My mom heard the samething and when my daughter got Type 1 at 11 I heard it too! I really felt guilty b/c she was born missing her left hand also and I thought God was thriugh with her only to find out that she was a diabetic too. I always heard that God never gave you more than you could handel but I really wondered at that time. Life sometimes gets alot harder than you ever expected it too but you and he will get through it.

As for your husband well I can't say how he will get through it but he will (mine did) Right now it's a new life to all of you but later it wikk become a part of life. I know it sounds like I'm talking out of turn but belive me it will get better it just takes time for the adjustment!

Yes we're all here I'm honored that you think of me as a friend and I will do everything I can to help you through this......Please let me know if I can help!

It may take me a few hours or even a day to get back but I will answer you. I'm dealing with a heart attack with my hubby right now it was his 3rd so tighting down is for him but he doesn't want to hear that right now! UGH I want to hurt him myself!!!!!!!!!! My oldest and her hubby along with 2 kids under the age of 2 are really getting me right now. One is 21 months and the other is 3 months this Monday. WOW that's tomorrow! Yep timeis flying by!!!! Ofcoures I didn't think I would be 45 with the attitude of a 25 year old either! May I ask how old your son is? I took Type 1 at 10 and my oldest took Type 1 at 11. So I've been there on 2 different sides.

Good luck and don't forget about us. We're here to help you through this!!!!
