My story

Well I was diagnosed when I was 19 (1/2009). Had all the symptoms... dehydrated, running to the bathroom every 10 minutes, sick to my stomach, my mouth was so dry I had to take a drink every time I took a bite of food just to help it get down. Being so thirsty all the time and not knowing that I had diabetes, I would chug chocolate milk, juice, soda, water.... basically anything in front of me. Little did I know, all those sugary drinks were just making it worst.

One morning I woke up and went to the bathroom. I was walking into walls. I woke my boyfriend up and told him something was seriously wrong. I need to go to the ER

When I got there they asked me 101 questions and sometimes it was hard to answer because i just couldnt concentrate. They did bloodwork and all that good stuff. I was told I would have to be admitted. I had ketoacidosis and a blood sugar over 1100. Wow! I spent 4 days in crtical care so they could get things back under control. I was just DYING to get out of there. Every hour they poked my finger. I couldnt grip anything with my fingers they were so sore. I was about to tell the nurse to start doing my toes lol. I had to keep a blood pressure cuff on so they could take my blood sugar I believe every 45 mins. It was just a pain. I felt aweful being hooked up to everything. Blood pressure cuff, ekg, iv. I kept getting tangled in all the cords.

Finally they moved me to a regular room for about 2 days. I thought it would be a relief, but my roomate was something else. I would never get any sleep because she would be yelling in the middle of the night. One day she had to get a blood transfusion. I went to the bathroom which was on her side of the room and I see blood everywhere! She pull out the damn thing. I had to flag down a nurse. After that I felt on pins and needles the whole time I was roomed with her. She was old and doped up on pain meds so i felt bad for her, but my goodness she was driving me nuts lol.

When I was finally released, I was so happy. To sleep next to my boyfriend in my OWN bed. To be able to relax and not have anything hooked up to me. It was great.

I've been doing a lot better lately. Usually I've been staying in the 100s, which isnt as bad as it used to be. I know it still needs work, but I'll get there =] I couldn't have done it without my boyfriend, my family, my boyfriend's family, and especially without TUDIABETES. So thank you for all of my friends on here. I love you guys.

I am doing ok. I pushed my Doc for a C Pep test to see how my poor little pooped out pancreas is doing. Getting higher dawn effects this past week and I cant cover meals like I want to as a T-2 even with diet and exercise and the max Met, dont know maybe I am a T-1.5? I am suspicious of T-2 because of what happened at DX. Doesnt make a lot of difference, I have to save what function I have left in any event. Have been feeling kinda cruddy on Bernsteins diet but it does help alot keeping my sugars down. So we push on and forward. How are things with you?

A good endo is worth the wait. I went through 3 or 4 endos before I found one that I was happy with. I had to wait over 7 months to get an appointment with the endo I have now. She is worth her weight in gold. She is willing to do anything for me. She did extra testing on me. She got me a pump when no one else would. All I have to do is ask and it happens.
