- I know I've been married to the same man for 26 yearsnow but he came from a family that knew about diabetes. His mom was one, then he married me, then our daughter at 11 took Type 1. She is 22 with 3 kids of her own now. Her husband's dad was a Type 1 too. Sometimes if ppl don't have diabetes it seems that they don't seems to wont to learn about it. My g-mother is scared of me. I have offered to live with the 85 year old woman and take care of her in her own house, I've even told her what to do if something happens (911 they would know what to do) I always told other's when I was dating that I was diabetic and if they decided to leave than I didn't think them worthy of me. Sometimes things happen (no telling how many cussings my husband has taken b/c of highs or lows) we need someone there who will TRY and understand.
