Back here after a few years, now I'm on Insulin and being diabetic sucks

Posted on August 6, 2012 at 9:30pm 14 Comments

I was taking metformin and was misdiagnosed as a Type 2 last time I posted here. After a few years of trying to control by sugars with diet and exercise, I'm now on insulin. After some research I REalized I'm a textbook LADA. My sugars were averaging 200's with daily exercise and a good diet. I feel better now that I'm on insulin. But I'm still getting used to the reality of constantly checking my sugar. Oh and I'm an uninsured professional dancer.

arrrgh! My sugar is running in the 200's again

it is really strange. I can go for a month or two and my sugars are fine and then suddenly it is like the metformin stops working. I work out every day, watch my diet, take my medication. I'm pretty damn healthy. Why the blood sugar problems?

Still running high

well I'm still averaging about 170
My doctor increased my meds
My diet is better
But my stress is high and I've gone from exercising 4-5 times a week to not at all.
and that damned halloween candy is taunting me from the cabinet

it's so hard to change my entire lifestyle

Surviving Halloween!

So I made it through halloween without digesting too much candy. Just a few pieces here and there! A big pot of chile, a veggie tray and a lot of coke zero helped me through the night.

I made sure to send my numbers and dose to the Dr and then he made sight adjustments. It's real easy to do and don't be afraid to move forward, It made me feel a whole lot better and my numbers are coming down
Let me know how your doing.
Sorry for not writing sooner, I don't get on this site too often but will try for at least once a week to check messages
Have a great day!

I just saw a comment you wrote on the stages of Acceptance of Diabetes. I wanted to let you know that I understand how you feel. I wish you the best in gaining that truly valuable acceptance of diabetes. It is not easy. It is something I have strugled with for many many years. I can honestly say, that the more I have accepted my diabetes, the better my management has been. I wish you the best!

Hi Christy--
I teach social psychology, personality psychology, history of psychology, intergroup relations, and positive psychology. I also teach various other seminars as need and opportunity arise. I research belief formation and change, intergroup conflict and resolution, and some consumer evaluation work associated with accents in commercials. I have a good friend who teaches psychology at Emory University. Do you write mostly freelance about medicine and health? I have some interest in HIV and public health information although I haven't researched the topic for many years now. I was diagnosed in June with diabetes 2 so I am thinking about some applied social psychological research on that in the future. Thanks for the add!
