I had a dr once who insisted on me trying metformin even though I am a type 1. After 10-14 of being sick I had my annual with my allergist and found out that I was allergic to it. It made my sugars worse the whole time that I was taking it. My end...

it is really strange. I can go for a month or two and my sugars are fine and then suddenly it is like the metformin stops working. I work out every day, watch my diet, take my medication. I'm pretty damn healthy. Why the blood sugar problems?

Fresca in Bolivia has sugar! You should have seen my (non-diabetic) husband´s face when he first tried a Fresca in the States, not realizing it did not have sugar!

Agreed! I don't drink caffeine at all and sometimes you just want a fizzy drink, you know? I had a diet root beer (caffeine free) today and it was awesome. A friend of mine saw me drinking it and said, "Hey, so you can drink soda?" I said, "Well, ...

Does it strike anyone else as a pain in the but that most restaurants and food places have only one sugar-free soda, and that is a cola? I don't drink caffeine in the evening, so that leaves me with...water. Which isn't too bad, but it would be fu...

Still running high

well I'm still averaging about 170
My doctor increased my meds
My diet is better
But my stress is high and I've gone from exercising 4-5 times a week to not at all.
and that damned halloween candy is taunting me from the cabinet

it's so hard to change my entire lifestyle

Surviving Halloween!

So I made it through halloween without digesting too much candy. Just a few pieces here and there! A big pot of chile, a veggie tray and a lot of coke zero helped me through the night.

My first normal BS in many months!

My sugar was at 122 tonight. 2 hours after dinner. That is my best BS in about 6 months. I'm feeling better. :-)

I just saw a comment you wrote on the stages of Acceptance of Diabetes. I wanted to let you know that I understand how you feel. I wish you the best in gaining that truly valuable acceptance of diabetes. It is not easy. It is something I have strugled with for many many years. I can honestly say, that the more I have accepted my diabetes, the better my management has been. I wish you the best!

Hi Christy,
It took me a while to get through the ups and downs. My doctor says that I have what she likes to call see-saw diabetes. One hour it can be in the 200's the next in the lower 60's. During the night is when it's the most dangerous. I understand your frustration. Hand in there my friend. As you get more control, it gets easier.

Hi Christy--
I teach social psychology, personality psychology, history of psychology, intergroup relations, and positive psychology. I also teach various other seminars as need and opportunity arise. I research belief formation and change, intergroup conflict and resolution, and some consumer evaluation work associated with accents in commercials. I have a good friend who teaches psychology at Emory University. Do you write mostly freelance about medicine and health? I have some interest in HIV and public health information although I haven't researched the topic for many years now. I was diagnosed in June with diabetes 2 so I am thinking about some applied social psychological research on that in the future. Thanks for the add!
