I had never considered that angle. Just that the gal at the 7-11 or the waiter at the restaurant didn't really need to know I was getting a diet coke BECAUSE I was diabetic. As if I were the only kid who would drink something like that. I don't t...

I was that way for a long time. My dad used to broadcast that I was diabetic to all kinds of people who had no reason to know. That used to embarrass me a lot and made me want to hide it from people I would meet. One day, though, I realized that i...

That is the most humbling aspect of having D is finding myself at a friends house and needing to ask for food due to a low coming on. I once was hiking up Bright Angel trail in the Grand Canyon. I had hiked faster than my father who had the food a...

I enjoy when people ask me about it. It is an opportunity to educate others, if they can remember. Every time I can help someone understand D more, than that is one less person out there who isn't going to annoy another person with D:-)

Do you ever wonder, though, these days about how much we actually "create" our reality? One of the things I have always thought about was whether or I not I did have anything to do with this coming on. A new way of thinking these days is that we d...

I have been there Charles! Friends I had growing up never seemed to "get it". I would tell them I was low and they would ask if I needed insulin. Was a bit annoying. Another time I was ranting, much as you were doing above, to a friend about how...

Welcome All!!

I'm new to this page but am looking forward to meeting lots of people here. I was diagnosed with Type 1 at 15 years old. At the time I figured this thing would shorten my life, that I wouldn't make it to 40. Here I am, though, approaching that age and without any complications to speak of. I wouldn't wish this on anyone though, but it is controllable. I believe I have been lucky more than anything. I love to eat but have a high metabolism so it is easy to keep weight off. I just wish it were easier to a blood sugar level where it should be. This is a daily battle as you all know. Keep up the good fight and welcome here!
PS: It would be great to find some old friends. I used to be a counselor at Camp Buck in Lake Tahoe. I was there for five years about 10 years ago and would like to know how anyone from there is doing. Anybody know anyone who might have gone there?

Trying to help

One of my first jobs was at St. Mary's Hospital in Reno. I worked there for 10 years. Over that time I got to know a lot of people in health care. I was asked to help out with support groups that the Diabetes center put on. This was not something I had done before, or did I ever participate in a support group. I was just fine doing this by myself. Carol Bradley was a nurse who talked me into helping out and I eventually found it rewarding. She also helped me get into pump therapy, as prior to th… Continue

The key is patience! Some computers load up slower than others, and the show is preceded by a commercial. This also annoys most! LOL

Hi Dean,
I know it’s hard to believe just how fast the years go by living with D. 10, 20, 30, and with my friend Richard 62 years. It has only been 34 years for me! An awareness of the D. and a sense of humor have gotten me through most years! LOL There are a lot of people to talk to about it now. I think that it is so wonderful to have this kind of support at your fingertips!
On these web sites, you’ll always be able to find someone who has been there done that and now can help you to understand it. Be Well, Linda
