I often forgo popcorn at the movies. I bring a stick of gum or a square of good chocolate. If I have something to entertain my mouth as the lights go down, I don't miss popcorn too much. Last night…Continue

Wanted a snickers bar . . . .

Bored and hungry at work this afternoon. All I could think of was a Snickers Bar. (Lesson: pack a larger lunch!) I went to the cafeteria, did eye the snickers, but discovered lovely little Caprese…Continue

I needed a post-dinner workout, but the rainy, stormy night made me stay in. Then I put on some dance tunes, broke out the old school aerobics moves, and cut loose in my living room. I felt stupid,…Continue

Anyone familiar with Joel Fuhrman's newest book, The End of Diabetes? While I'm always skeptical of promises to "reverse" diabetes, I'm wondering whether this book may have some good tips.Continue

Deborah replied to Bobby's discussion 'What is the longest distance you have walked?'
"Not my longest, but I regularly hike 8 miles about 10 times each year. When newly dx, I always carried my monitor & glucose tabs. Now that I'm more stable, I just make sure that I have healthy snacks every 2 hours or so. My hikes are the…"

"That's a great idea, it's alot more difficult for me to limit myself to a small portion of popcorn when the rest of the bag is just sitting in my lap. I usually just nibble from my DH or DK's bag of popcorn when I go. I made a…"

"I watch calories, juliannaergrl, because I have a real tendency to gain weight. But many Type 1's don't worry about fat and many actually eat a low carb/high fat diet. That's why I asked."

"Because the amount of butter they use adds a ton of fat and extra calories. I can add some butter after still get good flavor."

"Yep, gross is the word! Popcorn isn't something I eat much anymore but if I do it will be cooked at home with a tablespoon of oil on the bottom of the pot and real butter and salt!"

"So was it just a tablespoon or two like you use at home, Karen, or lots more? And what about the butter they used, was it real?"
Apr 21
Zoe replied to Deborah's discussion 'at the movies'
"Very different than homemade. With homemade you put a very small amount of oil on the bottom of a large pot, like a tablespoon and then pop tons of popcorn so it's definitely not coated in oil."

acidrock23 replied to Deborah's discussion 'at the movies'
"They fry it in oil to make it pop so there's probably some stuck all over it. Sort of like cooking it in a pan. It's not quite buttery saturated but, nonetheless, is all greased up."

Deborah replied to Deborah's discussion 'at the movies'
"It's saturated fat, but not sure what kind. As this article points out, the fat issue is more concerning for the moviegoer who eats a tub. http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/19/popcorn/"

"I skip the butter because regular movie theater popcorn already has a lot of fat."
