Should I change my name to "Lucky"?

I took off my insulin pump last night, forgot to reconnect before I went to bed at midnight. Woke to use the bathroom at 5am & noticed I'm not connected to anything. I usually get out of bed and give my tube a little tug to retrieve my pump. I don't know why but my bloodsugar was only 250, should have been more like 800. I should have been incredibly ill or maybe even dead? I didn't feel poorly. I took 3 units to cover the 250 bg and 3 units to make up for missed basal rate. I went back to s… Continue

Oh my goodness, Dena!! I haven't logged into tudiabetes in so long. How's everything with you? We're going to be in Montana in June. I have demanded it as a reward for watching the temp hit 113 this summer. There are little pieces on my car stereo that are starting to bubble & I blame the extreme Texas temps. It was 75 today & I wanted to cry. ;)

Never having a pump before I’m just a little confused after meeting with the reps from Medtronic and Animas. My questions may seem foolish but this is all new to me. My diabetes educator estimated that I will be using approximately 120 units every 3 days with an extra added cushion of about 25 units for flushing the tubing and catheter totaling about 145-150 units for 3 days.

My questions are for those using the Ping and Paradigm the rep from Medtronic pointed out that there is no “Back” button and if you made a mistake you have to start all over again. When changing batteries the Ping doesn’t account for active insulin and you might double stack. Not sure what double stacking is? Do I need the constant monitoring offered by both companies? My insurance will cover the cost of all pumps and peripherals.

If anybody has used both pump brands in the past I would appreciate some insight or just your some guidance from those with a lot more experience than I have.

Thank you.

Hey Dena! Remember me?? Did you think I fell off the face of the planet? =( Hehe, I didn't! I'm back and am determined to check in on here a lot more often then I have. How are you?? How IS your 'betes? Are you doing alright? I've been on shots for 6 months, now. I plan to get a new pump in the next few months. I can't take much more of injections. It's like being stung by a bee 4 times a day. =( Hope you're well!

oh ya.....I use the pump and the remote meter (ping). I love the system! I just plug in my carbs and away we go....the hard part is carb counting and logging every little thing that enters my mouth. Not to mention, I have fluctuations during menses and stress......which.....I never realized until I started hyper-actively checking my blood sugar 6-8 times a day. All in all, both units work well together and are very simple to learn and use. Oh..I see we have a Dexcom User group....I've got to check them out. I go back to the Endo Group in May and I'll have them recheck my A1C. I haven't had a reading between 6-8 in 5 years. I can't wait to see my numbers...especially my cholesterol and trigs. Anyway, I am keeping a three month log which I'll send into Dexcom along with my previous A1c level, my Hypoglycemic events and anything else they need. My diabetes educator is pushing me towards the Abbot Navigator; but, I've always had a great response towards Lifescan products and I really love my Animas pump. I look forward to the day when Animas and Dexcom merge the two technologies.
Hey....Peace Back at ya!
Stay Warm....spring is almost here.

Thanks for the high five Dena - are you a Dexcom 7 rep?
If so, how hard is it to get one?

I didn't have many problems until I became totally post menopausal. then I guess my skin changed. I've already gone through 12 infusion sets this month and it's only the 18th. I couldn't possibly handle having another thing poked in me like the dexcom.

hey, Dena, just wondering how long you've been pumping - 18 years for me. I've had a lot of problems with my skin where I put the sets lately.
