My name is Dena Gauthier and I am a diabetes wife/mom. My husband and our two daughters, ages 12 and 8, all have Type 1 Diabetes. We have learned to live well with diabetes but it is always with us...on vacation, in the middle of the night, on school trips...it never goes away. A constant unwanted companion that you can't just ignore. And most people don't understand the complexity of it...how could they? You need to live it in order to understand it. To understand that sleepovers make my pulse race...that when my husband travels I worry all the time about him being low in the middle of the night or when he is driving...and that even despite my best efforts, we still have really bad bloodsugar days. The responsibility is overwhelming sometimes, but we never let it get us down. We move forward...hoping, praying, working for a cure.
