Well, you could see if there's a team that's local to you and ask if you could piggyback onto their team instead. There is a local pump club near me that wears Medtronic shirts (and Medtronic pumps) and invited me to walk last year even though I ...

Okay, so I just completed the Susan G. Koman race for the cure. I technically did it with a couple friends, but essentially, I walked up the day of the event.. paid a fee.. and ran the race.. alone. I had something to prove for myself.. take back ...

It is ironic, but maybe it's also an opportunity. If you want those people and your family back in your life, this is a way to invite them in and show them something. Or it's an opportunity to create an entirely new circle of friends. I'm fortun...

Here is a brief summary of BGs and exercise taken from here http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/diabetes-and-exercise/DA00105: Lower than 100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L). Your blood sugar may be too low to exercise safely. Eat a small carbohydrate-containing...

Spinning!!!

There is so much great information on this site... but I feel like the more I read... the more my head spins and the less I feel I have a control on this disease!

I was diagnosed more than four years ago... ironically by one of the best Endo's in Cleveland (he was my third opinion!) However, my training was horrible.. wrong place.. wrong time.. huge lack of support and education!

After an awful, initial experience, I came to trust my former Internist at the expense of deeper diabetes understan… Continue

Question - Diabetes Medical Care "Self Funded"

I recently had an overnight medical stay for a high glucose level. I also don't have healthcare coverage, so I signed myself out first thing in the morning to stop the $$ meter from running. At this typing, my current balance is hovering somewhere close to $8,000!! I not only don't have coverage, I don't have income! Rather than working on a rating system or income sliding scale, the hospital turned my "receivables" over to a company called MedAssist.

The MedAssist paperwork gave me an odd feel… Continue

Hi Desiree! I saw your post about exercising and blood sugar. Here's a link from the Joslin clinic that talks about why bg rises sometimes after exercise. A few experiences have taught me that I definitely need to eat something before a lot of activity or else I'll go high. I think I tend to burn off calories fast and therefore if I remember correctly from my reading that the liver then releases glycogen for energy, thus resulting in the higher bg level. I hope this helps some. Here's a couple of groups on TuDiabetes you might be interested in joining too: Diabetic who Run Marathons and Athletic Diabetics. They might be helpful in regards to food choices and other exercise specific issues. Take care and have a great weekend! :0)

Hey Desiree, I read your post regarding the overload of information and completely understand! I would say one day at a time, and don't try to make too many changes at once. Also, I believe in moderation, that you can live a normal life as long as you follow the moderation rule. That said, everyone is different, and every day is too. If there is anything I can help you with, please feel free to ask questions. Hang in there!
