Heading in the Right Direction

Posted on July 10, 2011 at 3:34pm 3 Comments

Hello All,

This year I have publicly committed to working toward an HBA1C in the 6 range. The first appointment with my doctor revealed a dissappointing 7.9. My lastest appointment my HBA1C was a 7.6. I was not thrilled by any means, but heading in the right direction was a good feeling - something I haven't experienced in a while.

My doctor is also wanting to see those numbers come down a bit faster. He strongly suggested I try a CGM. I just started the Dexcom this past… Continue

Didn't Get Anywhere Near the 6...

If any of you read my blog "hoping for a 6" you were well aware that my goal for this HBA1C was to finally be in the 6 range. Well..the 7.9 was far from a 6; in fact, I'm embarrassed to say it went up by almost half a percentage point from last time. I had a feeling it wouldn't be better. I had a feeling it would be another confession session. This is usually how it goes. I get a bad reading, and I tell myself I'll do better. I work hard for a while, but then slip again.

My doctor… Continue

Hoping for a 6

I have had Type 1 Diabetes for 14 years, and throughout that span of time I have had one primary struggle - Fear of Low Blood Sugar.  This fear has diminished my level of control.  I tend to bolus less than I should, and I overeat when my bgs are low.  Consequently, my HBA1Cs tend to be in the high 7s or even low 8s (twice in a row! = very discouraging).

Two months ago, something inside me snapped.  I became really frustrated with my lack of…

Hey, Hello!

I'm using Tudiabetes as a way to connect with diabetic peers. I'm a senior at the University of South Florida and president of our chapter of "Students with Diabetes." We're hosting a national conference June 1st - 3rd in Tampa and want to bring in as many Type I diabetics (18 - 30yrs) as possible from across the country.

The conference costs $55 dollars total, which covers housing, food, & activities like Busch Gardens. It should be a lot of fun (we did something like this last year and it was great-- like a very condensed diabetes summer camp)! Please let me know if you are interested in any of this.. I'm easy to get in touch with.

You can also visit the SWD website for more information:

I memorized my pump menus, too, and pretty much use it that way, although I can read it with a really strong magnifier (like 12-14x). I use a Cozmo right now and the warranty has expired. They aren't making Cozmos anymore and sooner or later they will probably not make supplies for it, so I will need to switch, and like the looks of the Animas with the high-contrast screen and meter. Do you use the CGM with your pump?

Hey, cool! What is your vision like (mine is about 20/600)? I don't know many people who are legally blind and have Type 1 diabetes, and those I do know have all had vision loss due to diabetes. I see you use a Minimed pump. I am trying to decide which pump to go with next, Animas or Minimed, and keep going back and forth between the two.

Nope! You're not being blocked! I guess I still have a lot to learn about this site and the internet. You know, I still can't add the little smiley faces and glitter to messages. Arrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhh!!

Hey Devon:

Hope I didn't bruise you too much with that swift kick!! :-)

Btw, I had a spot of curiousity with my computer. I think it said to "block Devon." I didn't press that key, honest!!! Try to send me a message to see if it really did or if something else is going on here.

Hi Devon! Hehe unfortunately that awesome doctor was from my college days :( And she doesn't practice outside of the school (I tried convincing her to practice from home and then I can go see her but no...) That's ok though, I figure it's quite hard to find such an enthusiastic doctor :)
