I'm a 40 year old Type 1. I was diagnosed 8 years ago and I ran my first marathon last April. I'm training for my next marathon (Jan. 7th).

So I'm a 30Women with type I of many many years who has just signed up to run a marathon. The thing is that I'm just recovering from trochanteric bursitis, an interesting diagnosis because I was running only 2 miles/day. I had to rest for months (...

i wouldn't call myself quite a runner-- i'm really slow! but it's been strangely rewarding to train for this half marathon-- it's the applefest in hollis, nh! tomorrow i run 12, and then i am basically going to taper down until the big day!
it's nice to meet someone else who was recently diagnosed... i have just celebrated my 2nd diabetes birthday! it's been quite the learning curve. how are you doing? your a1c is awesome... if only mine could get into the 5s!

Hi Andy,

I can't believe you were diagnosed in Jan and your A1C is already 5..... what was it at diagnosis? Mine was over 12 and it took several months to get below 7. Sorry about your dad. I think it must be a completely different experience to be diagnosed in 07 - my endo is already talking about a pump running off of a continuous blood glucose monitor. I only know one other diabetic (acquaintance, really) and it is strange - but this site helps a lot.
