I am a Diabetes Educator and Dietitian and am currently writing an article for Diabetes Self Management and was looking up information on prescribing insulin without a prescription. I am currently a pump trainer for Matria/Alere and plan to become an educator with Omnipod - I have found the concerns with Omnipod on your site to be alarming.

1200 Calorie Menu day 4 - Fast Food

Last year I added "email counseling" to my nutrition practice. Best thing I ever did. People are far more open and honest when they don't have to stare a dietitian in the face. The most frequently asked question is "What can I eat at a fast food restaurant and still lose weight?". Continue

Insulin - No Prescription Needed

I have been extremely concerned about the amount of people that are not getting their insulin because they think they must have a prescription. You do not need a prescription to purchase NPH and Regular insulin except in Alaska.

This is a result of the economy and misinfor… Continue

Diana, thanks for the info. I like to Omnipod, but I have never used any other pump. It has some things that could be improved on but I hear they upgraded the software so it will now work with Windows Vista. I am working on becoming a trainer and have checked into the website you recommended. Thanks again, Denise

Hi Diana, it is good to see someone on this site for support of a loved one. The reason I am writing is to ask about becoming a trainer for omnipod. I wear the omnipod, and I am a RN (critical care) who has to change jobs due to a neck injury from biking. I spoke to my omnipod rep who told me I can be a trainer for the pump and she would give me a contract to work as a contract person. I am looking for any other training/education jobs and any advice would be most appreciated. Could you give me an idea of how the pump trainer works. I would like to be a diabetic educator, however they require a cert. that takes working for a couple yrs as an educator first. I do not use this site all that often, but I noticed your comment on the omnipod and it's concerns, just curious what your are ref. to specifically. Thanks. Denise

Dear Diana

Welcome to my group. I visited Orlando in 2005 to attend ADA's meet and presented a papper also but could not see Disney land. I did see it on TV.
Have you ever visited India. Regarding your query, I am a Diabetologist and running an exclusive Diabetes Clinic, rendering primary level care.

I think that's great. I bet that the human factors have to be more interesting the technology side of pumping. I waited 29 years to start pumping and I am in a technology field and also I work as a instrumentation and controls expert. It was my (then) 14 year old niece who asked me "what are you so afraid of"? All that technology experience but it took an emotional upheaval for me to even try pumping.

What's your experience with pump training been like?
