I HATE LOWS !!! I feel like a panic sets in and I have to eat and I have to eat NOW ! I've learned in the past that I will eat everything in the house if I'm not careful but what I've done is to put some Schwans 50-50 bars aside in the freezer for...

Wow.. Once when I forgot my insulin for a day (was on a trip and car broke down. Talk about a 3 hour tour). I shot up over 375. I freak when my numbers shoot over 150 so to more than double that really sent me over the edge. I kept saying I've got...

Starting again

Met with the Nurses Tuesday. First they changed my insulin regimen and then my diet. I can live with that. Next step then was "Yes I am qualified for a pump." Start on the 5 step program. Step one is to meet with them and get an ok from them. Step two is to prove I can carb count. and meet with the RN in two weeks with my food diary and log book. Step 3 is find out what my co pay is. Step 4 is the Endo and 5 is the Manufacture Rep. Anyone of these steps can stop the process but they have a 99% success rate. The 1% is when the co-pay is too much. So back to the old game, before it goes in my mouth ... count it and write it down.

Thanks Don for all the encouragement. I Went to my follow up appointment with my Endo on Friday. She downloaded my info to Carelink Pro and reviewed my bg readings from pump start and my insulin usage has dropped by almost half to when I was taking Lantus @ 100 u per day along with Novalog injections with each meal and for corrections. No changes to my basals or other ratios other than the corrections I made after my first day. I go in Jan for my regular Endo appointment. Not experiencing anymore lows. I am going to bed with a 116 and I had a 117 two hours after dinner, so the pump seems to keep me on an even keel. Good luck with yours. I haven't thrown anything out yet because it is nice to have a back up plan.

I have to educate myself on healthcare systems in USA....nut I gather if you have good insurance you R good..if not...YIKES!! Canada often lags behind in approving and covering things (sometimes years) but eventually we all end up covered. I am just frustrated cause I have been reading about how the pump/cgm combo is making life better for lots of people and I know that it will be years B4 I have access to one (unless I pay the whole thing out of pocket. I am trying to assess how much that would cost me..... Thanks for your input!!

Hi Don
I read your comments on the PING...just for my info...how much does that wonderful gadget cost? I live in Canda, where at present, most insurance companies will NOT pay for any of it, but the government in my province will pay for the supplies needed. Thanks for your info on the blog. I found it helpful. :)

Step One...more to go !

Okay I met with the CDE last week and had a very good meeting. First she re-classed me as a type 1.5 diabetic. Still not sure if that was for real or something in passing. Will ask about that later. We chatted and she looked over my log book with all the blue and yellow stripes. Needless to say she wasn't happy. First she told me I've lost plenty of weight and to stop and then we were going on a short roller coaster ride while we readjust my insulin. Wheeeeeeeee. According t her even though my H… Continue
