hello goodbye - i can't leve my hdl behind

just got back from the doctors and it looks like i gained some weight. what a bummer! i have been noticing that every time that i go for a visit my weight seems to drop and then go up a little bit and then come down again. i wonder why that is. maybe i should have asked the doctor.i am really happy with my A1C level, it's even lower than my last two visits. it use to be at 5.9 and now it's down to 5.3. now to quote vice president biden "that's a big f****** deal." the bad cholesterol has also…See More

happy day!

so today was the day that i got to see my doctor. i was hoping that the news i got was going to be a lot better than it was, but i'm really happy with the results of my blood work.

my HDL count was 32 that means i brought it up two points from my last test. i was a little p***ed off considering all the hard exercise that i did. so there has to be something else that i can do on top of me exercising like crazy. my doctor did ask me to start taking a baby aspirin a day which i think… Continue

Crazy Little Thing Called HDL

Posted on April 10, 2010 at 9:18am 3 Comments

the fear is still lingering in the back of my head but hope is still in the air after getting my blood drawn this last wednesday to check my good cholesterol. i know that i wasn't the best at sticking with my workout schedule for the 5 weeks that i had but i think that the days that i did work out i busted my ass to the point where everything hurt.

every time i hit the treadmill and i would think to myself "maybe i should stop" i would always think about adding…

I was telling you that I don't know what else to do because my glucose is still over 100 when I wake up and 2 hours after eating is usually between 125-145..but that's counting carbs, of course. Last time I went to McDonald's and ordered a sugar-free vanilla iced coffee and I could tell that they gave me the one with sugar because I was feeling terrible, I was falling asleep while driving and very dizzy, my sugar was 220 when I got home, I couldn't eat dinner that night. Tell me about you please, I hope everything is going well for you. Take care.

But no matter what my mood is, I still watch carefuly what I eat. I don't want to end up with complications so soon. I have an appointment on June 7, I am very nervous about my A1c and other tests they did to check my kidneys and liver, I think. They are not checking my cholesterol this time, I don't know why. I have been working out almost every day, I don't know what else to do

Well, I would like to change doctors but with my insurance is difficult. I will wait and see how everything goes these 3 months and then I will do something about it. I have my next appointment on July. My doctor is not and endocrinologist, he said he is the "diabetes specialist". Let me know how you do on your cholesterol. I called in for my results and they were a little better, My total cholesterol went from 184 to 170, triglycerides 133 to 76, HDL from 46 to 48 now. I know that 48 for good cholesterol sounds great, but for women it should be near 60, I think it's different for men. I hope you got good results. Please share!

Yeah, my doctor wanted me on Crestor for my HDL and although the HDL isn't really high my overall numbers are 180. And I've been reading that cholesterol can actually have a protective function. I know diabetics have a higher incidence of heart attack but I don't think statins can prevent that. That's my thinking anyway!!

Did you say organic? I like organic for certain foods. In my view, organic beef is not such a big deal if it is grass fed or hormone/antibiotic free. But it can be hard making tradeoffs, often it is just too expensive. We have farmers markets around where I live and there is always localharvest.org. But I'm not clear that organic makes any difference to HDL. Pasteured and free range certain make a difference in how much omega-3s are in the meat and eggs.
