- Diabetes runs on both sides of my family. I didn't get diagnosed until 1990 - shortly after I was married. I refused to take insulin for 3-years; because insulin-resistance also runs heavily (pun-intended) on both sides of my family. As soon as I started taking insulin - the insulin-resistance showed up, with all its side effects; and I've been suffering with that decision every since.

Okay ... it's taken me so long to get here; I've worn myself out!
Basic Intro:
NAME: Dwayne
ADDRESS: New Glasgow, nova Scotia, Canada
DIABETES: T1 - diagnosed in 1990; began insulin 1993; developed insulin-resistance 1995; ... all the other complications kept coming along, after that - like watching one of those endless freight trains pass by...

hey Dwayne, welcome to the community. the HbA1c is a test all of us should be getting (I get mine every 3 months)- it's also just called "a1c" here - it's like an average of your blood sugars over the past 3 months.
