CGMS - How did you get coverage?

I am now at my wits end and need some help. I had appealed the coverage of my CGMS and received my letter of denial this Saturday. I had do appeal this through a Trust Fund that supplies my medical insurance which currently is Blue Shield. The letter told me that the trust fund "adopted Medicare guidelines for coverage of durable medical equipment". Then it goes to tell that "Medicare considers a Continuous Glucose Monitoring System to be precautionary and does not cover the item".My question…See More

Frustrated, what would you do????

I am at a loss as to what to do in this situation. Last week I had contacted my insurance company to find out what type of dressing was covered to use over my sensor and during the same conversation I was told "oh by the way your CGM isn't covered"!! I have to explain this to you, I received my CGM the end of September 2011, yes that is 4 months ago now! So needless to say I was back and forth between Medtronic and my insurance company pretty much all Friday trying to get this straightened out.…See More

hope your eye continues to improve. gosh we have so many nice members near Philly, I think there should be a meetup sometime maybe next year. my sister lives in the Mainline Philly area. I'm actually from VA, but my husband's from NJ. we've been in the far northwest tippy top point of NJ for 8 years now, it's very rural, farms, cows, bears, lakes and no Starbucks or Interstates, not what most people think of when they think NJ.
