"Actually, NPH is an intermediate insulin, really rather slow. I won't bring your blood sugars down for hours. You need a rapid insulin, like Regular (R) or even better, one of the newer ones like Humalog, Novolog or Apidra. I found the books…"

"ElCyd, welcome to the TuD family. I don't think that question can be answered without knowing your correcton factor, or ISF (Insulin Sensitivity Factor). We're all different. My correction factor from 12a-12p is 1:35, and 12p-12a 1:40. So…"

High B.S.

So, tonight when I checked my B.S. it was 11.5. This is rather high for me, usually around 6.0. Naturally I won't be having a snack but the question I want to ask is: how much NPH (slow acting insulin) should I take?See More

I've been able to manage my weight for quite some time, but lately I've been adding weight and bulging fat. I eat carefully, about 170 carbs per day and take insulin after meals (ratio: 1 unit per 6 carbs). I also work out daily: push-ups, sit-ups and weights. Hope I can get some help.

Welcome to the family! On this forum you will learn so much. Most of all you will learn that you are not alone. Everyone here is supportive and will provide answers to your questions. Search the site for answers. Read the discussions and blogs for information. There are videos to help you understand diabetes and its treatment. Most of all there is family to talk to and even to vent to, if needed. Welcome home.

Welcome home ElCyd...fellow Canadian!
This is a great place to share, to learn, and to grow...all the while meeting new people world wide, and making friends.
Take a peek at some the groups when you get a chance. Just go to the top of your page, and click on "Groups".
Once in, you can either peruse the wide array of available groups....or simply type a specific interest in the space provided.
Take in some of the blogs/discussions as well.
The resource boxes at the top of the home "Home" page, and
"About us" at the very bottom of your page and every page (the footer), offer you more information still.

Hope you find the support and information you came looking for.
