Hi Elena,
No, I don't know pilates. I am just not very good in the gym. I do some walking, but not a lot of anything else right now. My son comes over a couple of times a month and works with me on small hand weights and tries his best to teach me different exercises that he thinks i will remember. He teases me a lot and we do more laughing than exercise, but I think we both enjoy it. I am really not good with dancing either, but some of my grandkids say they will work on it with me. i would love to go apple picking as the apples are getting ready now. We used to pick all kinds of fruit when I was a kid. It was alweays such a fun time. What do you remember best from childhood?

last night we had flounder that my husband pan fried, and a corn and broccoli side dish, and a salad of fresh tomatoes from my garden with red onion and olive oil and vinegar and herbs (heaven!) I am going to really miss it when the local fresh vegetable markets close for the winter. We found this one farmer who has the best corn, and he's "way off the beaten path" - that is to say, he's on a small road in the woods. He only sells corn that has been picked that very same day! It is so good! Many other local people have discovered him too, so you have to go early to be sure you'll get some!

Saturday we will be going to New York City to an Italian restaurant called Babbo. The chef is Mario Batali, who is on television here a lot. I am looking forward to it, and will report back!

Hello, Elena! I hope you are feeling well today. Sometimes I have a bad blood sugar day, and I can't quite figure it out. Lately I've been focusing on getting more exercise - walking - the leaves are beginning to change here, and the weather has been nice, so there's no excuse!

Hi Elena,
I am sorry the belly dancing was hard. I probably would never have gotten it right. I hope you try again. Maybe it will work out next time. Anything done for fun has to have some good points. I am laughing about how funny I look trying to dance to anything. A couple of my grandkids are coming over this weekend They said they would try to help me dance something then. They were already laughng. It won't matter just so we can laugh together.

My doctor and my diabetes educator have made a plan for me with counting carbs. It must be customized for each individual person. Basically I take insulin to "cover" the amount of carbs I am eating, like 1 unit for every 10 grams of carb. But I have a different ratio depending on whether it it morning or afternoon.

Hi Elena
It looks like both of my messages finally showed up on here. sorry I messed them up. There is probably another one on your site just like these.
So tell me about the bellly dancing. Did you have a good time? I always wanted to try that. My kids laugh at me so much when i dance I start laughing too I think that would be so fun to learn to belly dance. I am sure it would be great exercise too.
We did go shoe shopping but didn't buy anything. I tried on this pair of really fancy red high heels. But i couldn't manage to walk in them and didn't have anything to wear red patent leather and rhinestones with. They were fun to have on though. My daughter found some zebra heels and we laughed about those too. We had a good time. It is never about buying the shoes, just the fun time we spend together. I hope you had a great time and am looking forward to hearing about the belly dancing. Wish we were close enough so you could teach me some moves. Great talking to you. I will catch you later.

we do grilled eggplant, zucchini, onions, and other veggies too. I recently got an "eat smart" food scale, which not only weighs the food, but tells you how many carbs. Do you count carbs? I just discovered a pasta that is very easy to count the carbs! Mezze rigatoni (Barilla's). Each rigatoni is one carb!

We enjoy Italian food a lot. I use cookbooks from Marcella Hazan and Lydia Bastianich a lot. Lydia is from Istria. They have a lot of good vegetable dishes, and teach us American about how good and healthy real Italian food is. My best friend is Italian-American, too!

thanks for the add. I see you have a comment from Saundra - she is very special indeed!
No, I was not able to have children. I have had a full life with a wonderful husband, and many close friends though.
I've been very lucky not to have had too many problems with my diabetes. I love to quilt and cook, and would love to know what kinds of foods you eat. What's for dinner? Last night we had chicken wings, and green beans and corn on the cob fresh from the farmer's market. yum!
