"Nice summary, thanks for sharing. Regarding the seeming outdated nature of the PDM, I've also wondered about it. Being a tech professional myself, I strongly suspect it's because of cost. A lot of people complain, "why can't the…"
"Well, to be fair the new PDM most likely won't be $1000. IIRC the current one was about $400. But still, that's the nature of your coverage plan, not a general problem with Insulet. Have you tried contacting a local rep? Mine is very…"
"To be honest, you seem so dissatisfied with Insulet; why don't you stop being a customer if you're that unhappy? I certainly would. By the way, the last PDM upgrade they did a few years ago, I'm pretty sure everyone got the new PDM…"
"In addition to high-fat, high carb meals (eg, pizza), I use an extended bolus in cases where my BG is low but I'm about to eat a regular meal. I take a low percentage immediately and extend the bolus to deliver the rest in an hour. That way I…"
"Do you even consider for one moment that, in January, the plan was one thing and now it has changed due to new information, feedback, etc.? Why do you assume an intent to deceive as opposed to the equally possible explanation that they've…"
"That's a valid point, but I'm pretty sure the "contracted rate" that insurance carriers pay is not the same as the retail price that Insulet charges for out-of-pocket payers. I could be wrong about that, but based on years…"
"I fit the PDM in my pockets all the time; jeans (not the "skinny jeans"), cargo shorts, khaki slacks, whatever. It's smaller but thicker than the average smartphone. Like others have said, you don't need to have it at hands'…"
"Well, keep in mind that this only matters for quite low basal rates. For small children I imagine that's not uncommon, but I don't imagine most patients have enough basal that it's spread out more evenly over each hour."
"Amen to reminding us that we can live without a pod for an hour or so! I think a lot of new podders forget that and try to micro-manage too much. Remember that stressing out over pod changes is bound to raise BG, so my advice is to relax and get it…"
"That doesn't make sense to me. When a bolus is being delivered, you can hear it throughout the duration of the bolus, then it stops when the bolus delivery is complete. Once I actually counted the clicks and it corresponded to the bolus size…"
"I'm 90% certain that basal is delivered "continuously" at a frequency determined your basal rate. In other words, if your basal rate is .6 units/hour, it would deliver .1 unit every 10 minutes or .05 unit every 5 minutes (I'm not…"
Hi Eric read your bit on the penguins and though you should look at bullet proof at my spot. That tape is so light so sticky so water proof and leaves no glue when removed I thought you should know about it. I preach too much. Take care. Michael.
Eric - I am a big fan of meditation, inspiration, and motivational speaking. (Its not hard to tell if you visit my site at http://www.supportersofsurvivors.com nothing for sale there, I promise!) Some time ago I came accross a VERY gifted speaker, and motivational pholosopher, named Steve Rizzo, are you any relation?
Hey Eric...Agree and think that we are both on the same path but U just say it differently. I don't get upset if I miss my target as long as I'm within reason and am real happy if I hit it. My endo has my range set from 80-140 which I've been able to hit 84% of the time and about 9% below 80 so I'm most concerned about that 7% I just tighten that range up so it give me something to shoot for.... I like to challenge myself so when my endo set my goals rather high from what I wanted but just being safe so I would ask to have them a little lower. I get what your saying and truly appreciate the comments. That's why I like this site...great discussions and it gets you to look at things from a different perspective...Look forward to your help in the future! Take Care~Schmutz
Hi Eric - Can you remind me of the bandage you use around your Pod when it's on your arm? I think it was from Walgreen's but I am having trouble finding it. Thanks for any help you can provide. Lorraine
