I like the "enjoyment" faces - those are priceless and those are the moments we need to cherish. The math... well... that has to be accounted for (no pun intended), but if we try to calculate before the moments of enjoying our food it makes it a l...

Glad you are on the mend. I had pneumonia in basic training (air force) back in 1968. It took 3 trips to the ER over the course of a week or more, before the idiot doctors realized I was in serious trouble. They hospitalized me for a week. I snapp...

She raised 2 Type 1 children and now she struggles with the idea of insulin for herself...?

I was diagnosed with Juvenille diabetes on May 21, 1972. My mom was 29 years old and pregnant with my brother. He was born July 25, 1972 and 2 years later he was diagnosed with Juvenille Diabetes. 37 years ago that's what is was called... "Juvenille". Both my mom and dad dove head-first into a life of caring for two diabetic toddlers. They never let anything stand in our way or their way. We lived life as normally as the next kid, so we thought. I learned years after the fact, that for every bir… Continue

Happy 37th "D" day to me : )

Today is my 37th Anniversary of being a Juvenile (Type I) diabetic. Cool, huh?

I can't figure out why no one wants to celebrate with me? I'm very proud of it. I have to tell you that 37 years ago my parents thought I was being sentenced to an early death.

I'm proud to tell everyone that I've lived a very nice, relatively "Normal" life as a T1.

- I've traveled to all 7 continents (104 Countries on MDI).

- I've been married for over 15 years to a man who loves me and supports me and has taken… Continue

QUITTER...Turned LOSER ... 7 Weeks!!!!!!!!

Hello all-
I've been away for a few weeks, but I wanted you to know that I have been peeking in to check on things.

I also wanted to let you all know... in 6 minutes at 1:00am it will be 7 weeks since I last smoked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I still can't believe it. I had tried so many times for so many years to quit and each time (after about 5 -10 days) I'd go back to the smoke hut at work and announce "I'm NOT a QUITTER". Well, now I say "CALL ME QUITTER!"

So, I'm still on the weight loss plan too! LO… Continue

QUITTER LOSES>>>>.................!

Hello all!
As promised the QUITTER is on to new adventures!

It's now been 5 and 1/2 weeks since my last cigarette and I can't tell you how proud I am of myself. I can get up and not go straight outside to smoke. I've actually learned to let my two dogs outside by themselves! I can drive and not smoke. I'm enjoying the freedom.

Now, I'm onto bigger and better things!
I walked about 7 miles on my treadmill last week. I've joined a few other TuD folks on a weigh loss mission and it finally kicked… Continue

QUITTER - 1 SOLID month... and name to come = LOSER : )

Hi!
Can you believe it's been one month today. Dec. 18, 2008 - Jan. 18, 2009. I have NOT smoked. Today I had to go to LaGuardia to get my mom at the airport (see my blog...EDONAdesigns.blogspot.com...the pipes burst at mom and dad's house!) and as I sat at the airport with my daughter we watched about 15 people smoke outside the door. I didn't want one. I didn't want to get out of the car and smoke. Now, that was HUGE! Me, not dying for… Continue

Hi Erin...thanks for touching base!
Can relate about the pneumonia, had a run in with it a couple of weeks ago...I was off for 6 days, it does a number on your BG! It all started with an asthma flare up! Len, my husband, will be going back to the DR tomorrow, as it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I'd like to get flu shots and a pneumonia vaccine, but must get the all clear first!
What crafts do you make? See if you can upload some pics...would love to see them.
Take care....linda.

I was notified of your comment on my "page" from earlier today. Here are some answers for you. My own case of "brittle" is now fully discussed in two posts, currently located on page 3 of that Thread. (Although further replies to earlier posts could move them forwards, into a new "page 4"). My age is in line with the wild guess "maybe early-stage Alzheimer's plaques in a really bad place?" (50s). Like Ann, I was disappointed by replies from recovered fake-Brittles extending their own experience into the utter falsehood, "Ain't no such thing, you're lying to yourself"....

But I didn't become really ANGRY until one of those posters came back, simply to insult us a second time, with a "I know ALL about it, you're only lying" post.

A different author wrote a follow-up back-with-more-insults post and said, "brittle is only a cop out, a sign of weakness". Ann reacted strongly to that one. But, that person at least offered a bit of an apology later :))

My own anger was aroused by a different post. The one which really set ME off was the "....Labeling ONESELF 'brittle' is doing a disservice to oneself.... I'm living proof, so look no further" item.

The tortured English sounds almost Elizabethan, like a religious charlatan standing on a pulpit and thumping his KJV, while pronouncing himself as some sort of divinely-designated authority (at least in this matter). 'Look no further' I have pronounced the TRUTH, it is settled, you are a liar to yourself (and others).

And to top it off, he announces that HE wouldn't feel offended by his previous insulting post. So generous.

Please do feel free to remove this from your wall.

Hi Erin! Hope all is well in your life. I have a few blogs on tap but it is true I am focusing on my 25th year (why I don't know, this internet thing has really got to me,lol) with Type 1 Diabetes.

Cheers!

Hi Erin! I am glad to hear that you are on the mend. I hate the term "brittle" as well. I do not think that you are abrasive. You just speak your mind. (I do the same) I know that for years I have had a lot of lows and highs which are sometimes unexplainable. It can be very frustrating. Of course there are those times when I do not always follow "the plan" and lows and highs are explainable. :-)

Glad to be back online. Won't be home for weeks yet because it looks like I'll be facing TWO surgeries; the first probably next week. The right foot hasn't quite filled in the hole in it.

All is well here....hot weather and keeping busy. Going out to look for a job...not wanting to go back to my previous career, too hard on me mentally and with this D physically.

Well, take care
