"Just curious... because I saw your post from April. I was just put on 100 mg of Januvia, added to my 2000 mg of Metformin daily because even with low carb and lots of exercise I am still almost constantly in the 200s... Have you been happy with…"

"Dear Esmom. It is a shame that we have to wait for insulin until our own pancreases are toast. With some basal like lantus or levemir and humalog you should do well. Weight gain is a problem if you have any insulin resitance. May need a lot of…"

"Thanks everyone! That explains the sliding scale thing much better. And just to clarify, my doctor is NOT putting me on a sliding scale. I've just been doing a lot of research about starting insulin and that terms keeps coming up and I wanted…"

"Sliding scale means your doctor was educated in the 1980s and hasn't updated his knowledge since then. Seriously. It's a terrible way of dosing fast acting insulin that doesn't take into account how many grams of carbs you eat at a…"

"You do not want a sliding scale - it's better than fixed meal dosages, but only barely - it is a very antiquated regimen (a slight improvement from the days when people had fixed dosages of R and N and little ability to self-manage their…"

"I also have a friend who uses a "sliding scale" based on what his blood sugar is before his meal. So if it is 80-100 he takes x number of units, 100-120 y number of units. He then adjusts this upward a tad if he is eating a carb-heavy…"

Have you been happy with Januvia? I am reading lots of conflicting information about side-effects which worry me, but in only three days my post-prandial readings are lower. I, too am worried about the roller coaster with insulin, but will eventually have to go on it according to my endo. Thanks for anything you can tell me.

I would love to tell you DIabetes can go away but it can't. You are prob going through the honeymoon phase...kinda like a type 2 but still a inch of type 1.
