- I have Type 1 Diabetes, for about 19 years now. It took several years to get the correct diagnoses of "Neuropathic Pain of the Abdominal Wall", which is easier to understand in this format: consider every muscle you use in your abdomen is affected by my neuropathy, and causes pain. It is sometimes controlled by gabapentin and a fentanyl patch.
As much as I'd never want anyone to have what I have, sometimes it would be wonderful to have someone else to talk to about it, discuss what works for one, or is helpful NOT to do, that sort of thing.
I would be more than happy to share my experiences with my insulin pump, my very successful pregnancy and delivery at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN, and anything else I might be helpful with.
A little more about me:
I live in "LA" - ie Lower Alabama, and am married to a now retired US Army Soldier, and we've traveled mostly the East Coast, with him doing one tour in Iraq and one in Korea. We have an almost 15 year old daughter who drives us nuts and is the light of our life at the same time!
I used to do some graphic designing. My parents owned a newspaper when I was a kid - and as is true for most family businesses, we had to learn the trade. Advertising was my calling, and I loved doing it. I've been a stay at home mom most of Katie's life, so I'm certain I'm out of date computer wise now!(by the way, my mother is mortified at how my grammar and punctuation has gone downhill over the years, so please bear with me, I type waaay faster than my brain can keep up!)
I am also goofy, and sometimes come off as much more sarcastic than I mean to!
I've had diabetes since 5 months after meeting my to-be husband. We laugh when we think back, and say that if he stuck around during that time, I'm never going to get rid of him!
This site looks like it's going to be both good and bad for me. Only bad because I'm loosing a lot of sleep trying to read everything at once and learn as much as I can absorb! ;)
And with that I say, bring on the education!

Alabama....so far away, but it feels like you're right here, chatting over a cuppa! That's one of the appealing factors of tu.diabetes. I'm in Canada...in the southwestern part of the province of Ontario...a city named Kitchener-Waterloo (2 cities joined together). I'm a wife of 33 years (hubby is also diabetic), mom to two grown children (one 28, the other 26), a grandma (grand-maman) to 3 lovable little boys, a teacher, and before that an illustrator (still do some) and graphic designer....I speak French fluently, I read, history fascinates me, I paint, sing, walk, garden, ski, ride my bike....did I mention "read"? I love having friends over, I bake/cook, am an eclectic music lover, an animal lover...the ocean...ah the ocean...it speaks to me! Oh...and I have diabetes (and a few other things).
Nice to have you as a friend!!! Tell me a bit about yourself!

Hello Faith! Welcome to the community! Just read your status update regarding your question "What is "Tu" on TuDiabetes. "Tu" is commonly used as a 2nd person singular subject pronoun in many languages like Spanish, Italian, etc....just like saying "your" or "you" ("Your Diabetes") Dont worry...it has been asked so many times before LOL And the founders of the community site has Spanish descents.
