I had a similar experience--a friend recently told me his A1c was @ 5.8 and I remember sitting there...arms crossed, one eyebrow raised, thinking....Oh, really, hmmph! lol I spent the first couple of decades as a T1 being utterly non-compliant......

History of Diabetes

I have been doing a little research to find out how long the big D has been harassing the human race. So far I've it traced back to the Egyptians. During their time diabetics simply starved to death, in short order.

Recently I came across a women who is 98 years old and has had the big D almost all of that time. She unfortunately is blind and has other issues with nerve problems. Although she gets around pretty good and is right on the ball with current events.

The interesting p

Working the A1C

Ok I'm going to come clean here and tell the darned truth......I absolutely hate getting my A1c and having to give my meter up so the nurses can DL the readings. I always feel like I cheated someone and they are out to get me.

I feel like a child that just got caught with the proverbial hand in the jar....know what I mean?

These days I take it slow and hope that I can hold back the march of time and diabetes a bit. I work out at the Y four nights a week, I take guitar lessons, I

the Dance....

I have always felt that the dance it takes to control BG's has always been the age old fight between good and evil. You all know the story....sometimes you are the fly and sometimes you are the windshield.

As a general aviation pilot I am very careful where my BG's are due to the fact I don't want to hit the big green thing.....aka, earth.

And the FAA makes it easy for me because they require me to be between 100 and 300 before and during the flight. I also have to check each ho

Why Diabetes?

Over the years that I have been diabetic, I have often wondered why I was chosen to have it. Certainly, my like would have been much different than it is now. For one, I would still be married to my first wife Julie. She at the time was one of the most beautiful women I had ever met. I was lucky becuase we met while her car was disabled and I was able to help her get it running in the rain. From that chance meeting I was able to marry her.

We stayed together for 6 years and for the mos

Yea I have thought about using a CGM. My contention is I do not wanto wear another appliance. Last month I fouind out I have Tinnitus in both ears. This is truly a condition that will drive you KRAZY!. IN my case I have some minor damage if my hearing at the 4000K level. So my brain decided to start a continuous tone at 8000k around 1dB. This makes sleeping a ordeal. One of the remedies is wearing a MP3 pplayer that embeds a sympathetic tone in music to retrain the brain to ignore the tone that my brain is producing.

Again, I don. want to wear a second or third applicance along with my pump.

I am lucky though.....we found no underlying physical problem causing the tone, only hearing damage...

God Bless,

Joe

Hi Joe! Thanks for your message. It's always nice to hear how people manage their diabetes - at least I think so! I actually do test about 6 times a day, but one thing I have trouble doing is actually examining the readings and making adjustments. I tend to go on "auto-pilot" and just react to things rather than proactively try to fix the problems. Bad habit to get into! Anyway, must run, Cheers!
