Question re Diabetic Living magazine

Started this discussion. Last reply by Peetie Sep 11, 2011. 18 Replies

I just picked up the Fall/Winter issue, and I have two questions.1) Why is this magazine so repetitive? Every issue is the same. Here's what to buy at the store. Here's how to divide up your plate.…Continue

I read here on TuD the other day--in the forums, somewhere--that a snack size McFlurry (mix of soft-serve and a mix-in from McDonalds) was only 18gm carb.

"Oh!" I said. "That's not too bad, I should get one of those sometime."

We were in the drive thru today to get my son a drink, I ordered a snack size McFlurry

"WHAT!!" I said, when I saw the size of the thing. It was about 8 oz, so I knew it had to be more than TWICE what I had read it was. I estimated at… Continue

Type 2 Diabetes Vacation Tips

Posted on March 27, 2011 at 3:46pm 5 Comments

Just came back from a week's vacation, which was great fun. Over the past year and a bit I've come to dread vacations a lot less. At first, I was more pissed off about the lack of good eating on vacation than I was happy about going on vacation at all. But now I've come up with some strategies that I can live with and thought I'd share. I'm sure my free advice is worth every penny. :D

1. Stay in a place with a refrigerator. Several times during the week we had breakfast in the room… Continue

The Endo is Not My Friend-o

Posted on March 14, 2011 at 7:00pm 4 Comments

I know that diabetes and thyroid problems tend to go together, and I have certainly had my share of the latter. I've been on levoxyl since about 1996, and have been pretty much in range all the time. My GP sent me for the usual A1C (in the 5s, yay) and some other tests, and I came back with a TSH of 8--which I know is outside the acceptable range for thyroid. And no, I'm not super tired or cold, but I have lost a bit of hair in the past year, and it does take me a few extra beats to remember… Continue

"Better Me than Someone Else" is a fallacy.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 10:47am 11 Comments

I would have posted this as a comment to the blog called "Better Me than Someone Else," but the author of that blog has chosen to moderate comments, as is her prerogative. In that blog posting, she asserts that the reason she has been chosen to have diabetes is that she can cope with it better than other people.

As I said in my censored comment, all one has to do is to look around the boards and blogs a little to note that unfortunately, diabetes doesn't discriminate in favor of… Continue

Just posted a reply to your travel tips - I thought you were Canadian - with your mention about Cuban food - but nope - you are American. Keep up the good work with maintaining your blood sugars with diabetes/exercise. Next life I hope that if I do get diabetes - I get Type 2 - tho' Type 1 hasn't been that bad over the past 40+ years - I'm still alive and kicking - that's the main thing.
