There Goes My Honeymoon

Posted on June 19, 2011 at 3:03am 1 Comment

I haven't been to the doctor yet, and I can't think of what else it could be. I was diagnosed 6 months ago, and have had a really low basal and carb to insulin ratio (8 Levemir a day and 1:25 novolog). In the past few days, my blood sugar has suddenly jumped through the roof and won't budge. Hasn't gone below 200 and has jumped as high as over 400. I feel like crap, foggy, exhausted, upset stomach, gave myself a damn yeast infection, etc. but can't think of what to do to fix it. I have been… Continue

Just Past the 6 Month Mark!

Posted on May 22, 2011 at 11:08am 2 Comments

Wow, it is hard for me to believe that I have been living with Type 1 Diabetes for 6 months now. It still seems like just yesterday that I was diagnosed and being administered shots by my mom, who is a nurse, because I was petrified to go near the needle. It has been such an intense roller coaster, but I finally feel like I have accepted it.

There was a period of time, where I went through extreme grieving and sadness. Waking up in the middle of the night and every morning, with the… Continue

Losing Sleep, Can't Seem To Accept My Diabetes Reality

Posted on March 29, 2011 at 1:10am 20 Comments

I haven't been able to sleep much this past month. Almost every single night, without fail, I lay in bed thinking, thinking, thinking of myself and my life without diabetes. I feel as though I am obsessed and I don't know where to direct this excess mental/emotional energy. I cannot let go of the person I was up until 2 1/2 months ago. Her life looks so much more glamorous than mine. I can't stop thinking that I took it for granted, and I should have done so much more. I am dredging up old… Continue

Food Changes, Blood Sugar Changes

Posted on February 19, 2011 at 10:44pm 4 Comments

I have been eating a "Paleo" diet for about 5 days now. I have essentially cut out all grains, most dairy (I am still putting milk in my coffee), refined sugars and even legumes. So, what have I been eating? For breakfast something along the lines of berries with homemade cashew cream, dessicated coconut, walnuts and cinnamon. Lunch, a big giant salad with everything under the moon (including some protein, such as a hard boiled egg). Dinner, marinated chicken, homemade tomato soup and green… Continue

Low carb, but full fat! You might already know this, but I just learned there's a T1D group in Seattle that meets once a month. They have a page on Facebook called the Northwest Type 1 Diabetes Social Group.

Hi Frankie. I made this coffee cake last week and it is delicious. Thought you might like to give it a try. The website has a lot of low carb recipes that look pretty tasty:
