Think Nel means getting a glucose meter as an alternative to urine testing. In the US, meters are available everywhere. To get insurance here to cover the expense of test strips a doctor needs to write a prescription, but they can be bought witho...

Always worth experimenting! There are many types of protein powders. If you're looking for one with the highest protein content, whey isolate powder is great. You want to get the isolate, not hydrolized form. I use a brand called NOW. Health food...

Up to each person to decide. From someone in kidney failure facing certain & painful death, I'd think a kidney transplant would be the clear choice. I'd rather be on insulin than risk the associated problems of immune suppressant drugs for life. ...

Hope you get a glucose meter to know what's going on with blood glucose. No one uses urine tests. With an A1c of 8.4 it would help you to have better control. That really is rather high for your doctor have such a blase attitude about not rushing ...

Ditto on everything Scott said. Not simple at all, I'm afraid. Not as invasive, but this isn't essentially any different from pancreas transplants. These people also take immune suppressant drugs for life to prevent rejection. Other trials are mo...

Thanks a lot!! I changed my mind on the PhD...I read up on it and realised it's the Msc that I want to do...which isn't to say that I won't go on and do something further next year, but for now I would rather spend a year on the Masters and get that, and then work out from there where I'm going to go.

I'm with you - there are so many possible reasons that corrections take a while to kick in at night that really, it feels like there's no way to be sure what's causing it meaning there's no reliable way to fix it! It feels like for the past few weeks, I haven't managed to get a decent night's sleep because I either wake up high or low - it just never stays the way I want it to, and now I've messed around with my basal rates so much that I don't even know if I'm doing more harm than good. Wonderful, lol.

I like it...that could be are selling point! "Hibernation...the key to world peace." Ah, if only!

What have you been up to? Hope you're well :) xxx

Sounds like we're on the same page Gerri. The "ask your doctor about __" commercials on TV make me crazy- they'd be the first item on the agenda for health care reform to be banished if I was king....

Thanks for your note Gerri. I probably shouldn't have said anything, but armchair diagnosis really makes me crazy. And you're right- there are so many bad reactions to antidepressants that it's dangerious to encourage that without knowing the whole story. At the very least, that should be up to a trained professional.

All the best,

Mark
