Gil DePaula replied to Stress's discussion 'Bolus Distance' in the group OmniPod Users
"Hi,You don't have to be close to the PDM while the bolus is being delivered. But after the bolus is finished, the PDM and pod automatically communicate to confirm that the bolus was indeed delivered. Since you were away that didn't happen.…"

Gil DePaula replied to Tinkersmom's discussion 'Testing...PDM vs Meter' in the group OmniPod Users
"Scott, I think Tinkersmom said from the same stick (prick), not from the same strip. A strip won't let you use it twice, if I'm not mistaken. Cheers, Gil"

"Hi Natalie, Pancreum (and I) are in the San Francisco Bay area now (Fremont, CA). So I won't be at the event in Orlando. I wish Kennedy the very best. Unfortunately, I don't have any info on the new pod features. They don't have FDA…"

Gil DePaula commented on Mathew's group 'OmniPod Users'

Gil DePaula replied to Schmutz's discussion 'Temp basal "outside of delivery range"' in the group OmniPod Users
"It's because your 30% increase is going beyond your own setting for a maximum allowed basal rate. For example, if your maximum allowed basal rate setting is 3.00 U/h, and your current active basal rate is 2.50 U/h, if you try to increase it by…"

Gil DePaula replied to marty peters's discussion 'FSA Spending Limit Starting in 2013' in the group OmniPod Users
"Marty, If the limit is going to be $2500, but your expenses are $3000, then all you do is pay $500 after taxes, instead of pre-tax. The difference between pre-tax and post-tax for the $500 is only going to be about $100. So, $100 over a year means…"

Gil DePaula replied to NatalieHodge's discussion 'Just off the phone with Henry Anhalt about Artificial Pancreas Features...' in the group OmniPod Users
"The problem with one integrated wearable device (pump + CGM) is that the sensor can go 7, 14 or more days, while the pod only holds insulin for a few days. The user would have to remove and throw it away after running out of insulin, wasting several…"

Gil DePaula replied to NatalieHodge's discussion 'Just off the phone with Henry Anhalt about Artificial Pancreas Features...' in the group OmniPod Users
"The Insulet PDM costs $500. Any of the alternatives I suggest costs about half (or less): 1) If you already have a smartphone or phone-less PDA, you only spend say $50 for the app. 2) If you don't own one, you can buy one for $200 + app $50 =…"

Gil DePaula replied to NatalieHodge's discussion 'Just off the phone with Henry Anhalt about Artificial Pancreas Features...' in the group OmniPod Users

Over the last couple of years I've participated in several blogs about the Insulet OmniPod System, the Medtronic Guardian RT CGMS and general insulin pump & CGMS technology.

During this time, while blogging, I received a lot of feedback about these devices and their technology. You expressed your wishes for features and your concerns about the shortcomings of such devices.

Posted on April 11, 2011 at 10:02am 6 Comments

Hi All,

I just wanted to say that I wrote, as a weekend hobby, 8 iPhone Apps that are available for FREE on the Apple AppStore. They are just very simple "calculators" for several different factors, ratios, rates, etc. and are not fancy at all.

They are:

1) Bolus Calculator

2) Basal Calculator

3) Glucose Unit Converter (mg/dl to-from mmol/l)

4) Average Glucose Level to HbA1c % Converter

5) Insulin-On-Board Calculator

6) Insulin-to-Carb… Continue
