Are you okay? Haven't heard anything out of you since your Cath. What's going on Gordie? I started pumping on Tues evening. God is so good.

Gordie,
So you don't add insulin to the current reservoir. You install and brand new reservoir. I wonder why no one has mentioned that to me? Let me ask this, do you still do a 3 day site change or do you keep your site longer or change it at 2 days or whenever you put in the new reservoir? Don't mean to confuse you but I think you know what I mean. Here is my problem. I think I might like the Animas pump better but it only has a 200 ut reservoir. Everyone thinks I'll need a 300 ut reservoir due to the amount of insulin. Therefore, I'm limited to the MM which is fine but I kind of liked having a choice. Animas said I can add insulin to the existing reservoir but CCS and Medtronic say it is not recommended. I'm going to check my "Pumping Insulin" book tonight and see if it addresses this. No one even mentioned just putting in a new reservoir. Does that mean if you add a reservoir and don't do a site change, do you have to use another reservoir when you change the site a day or two later or what? By the way, I'm happy for you about the move and being close to your family. I'll remember to pray for your son tonight and his new church. You pray for my preacher son in law who has added some real estate time to his already busy schedule. They need the money.

Also, do you use the 522 or the 722? Have you ever had to add insulin to a reservoir. All the Medtronic people seem to think I'll have to have the 722 based on current insulin usage but I use completely different kinds right now so I don't know why they are so sure. That cuts me out of the Animas unless I want to add insulin every couple of days.

Hi Gordie,
How are things going for you? You feeling okay? I'm deciding on my pump this week. Finally got a MM demo last Thurs. It's such a hard decision for me and I'm thinking that is because of Medicare and because it took me so long to get there. I saw a comment you made about CCS sending you a 6mm vs a 9mm inset. You said they didn't ask you weight. I'm curious in who you talked to with CCS. I'm dealing with a woman (not a lady but a woman) who is so hateful. She treats me like a 5 yr. old stepchild. I'm about ready to ask for a different person to deal with there or tell them I'm going to call Liberty. I'm cleared for hardship at either place so my pump and supplies are paid for (thank you Lord). Do you know if you talked to Patricia?

Gordie,

That is impressive you have such a strong faith. Growing up with diabetes pretty much destroyed my belief in a good and benevolent God. But on the flip side of the coin, it has allowed me to understand how He punishes people in Hell. I guess when you live your life with a chronic disease you get to see the not so nice side of God.

gORDIE,

After 52 years, do you have many complications?
At 5:00pm on May 18, 2009, Karla J Sherer said…
That's so great Gordie! I had this done 1/08 and only had a 30% in my LAD and no other blockages. I was a 35 yr smoker and quit in 2003. That is what blocks the LAD the fastest so could have been worse. Like you, the last few months, I've had systolic problems of around 200. My new BP med is Bystolic and has not kicked in real good yet so am having to take Clonodine once or twice a day but my doc says it takes a month or so for certain BP meds to reach their potential. Mine started getting really high when I was in hospital for surgery 10/08. It goes up and down but always a bit too high. I hope this new med will start working. What are they putting you on? I know this is the diabetes at work - don't you? Yes, God is very good. Otherwise, you would not have been so good after all these years of T1 and I would not be getting a pump. I go to Beaumont for carb counting classes Wed. and to look at the MM pump demo.

I'll give that a try with the words. I use all that with my study Bible. Are you still happy with your Minimed? Do you feel you have better control now? Also, are you using Novolog or Humolog in yours?
