Students take on Juvenile Diabetes

This past Wednesday Elgin Secondary School in White Rock held their first Accu-Chek Cyclebetes Spin-a-thon to raise money for JDRF, and what an amazing job they did!

Our Accu-Chek Cyclebetes team arrived at the school at 6:00am to help get them set-up, only to find out that these students were one step ahead of us - they had done most of the setting up before we even arrived. They even had coffee and breakfast coming at 8:00am to supply fuel for the event.

Accu-Chek Cyclebetes 2010

My name is Grant Daisley and I work for a Canadian based group called Cyclebetes organizing events in high schools across the country to raise awareness of, and funding for, Juvenile Diabetes and the JDRF.

In 2007 a group of five friends bandied around one man who had made a promise to his daughter. The father’s promise: to cure juvenile diabetes before his daughter’s 18th birthday. In 200… Continue

So, not sure if you'll see this as your on the road - but will check via Twitter to see what your updates are - and will try to figure out where you might be showing up in la belle province (Montreal) on Friday!!!!

Maybe I'll be able to - I hate typing this here for all to see - but what the heck - dust off my 10 speed mountain bike - make sure the tyres aren't dried out - and head out to where ever you are!

Anyway, incase anyone checks in on your page - here's the link - can't hyperlink it for some reason - so you'll have to cut/paste - http://bit.ly/W6iT9

I think you look a little like Floyd Landis in your new profile photo. He might have some tips on completing your Cyclebetes ride!

Hey Grant,
I was reading the message you sent to the Canada group. I recommend you start vents on the Events page, with details about activities that you would like people to get involved in.

That way more people can become informed of your guys' work.

Let me know if I can help in some way.

Hi Grant.
Send me some more information about the Cyclebetes. I would love to get something like that started at my schools (I work at two schools right now). I did donate money during the cycle - and I am keen to keep the pace going. Sorry that I'm only writing back now, i didn't check my profile very regularly.

As a 91 year, young, geeer, insulin-dependent since 1977, am learning to learn the tricks of the trade of the computer,I feel like a dog in a meat store. I have reached over 40,000 since1978 by
doing 150 health fairs in and around GTA , where INSULIN was born, met the BANTING FAMILY IN 1978 and have been on an amazing journey up to now. In surfing the net I came across your page an learned you are an event coordinator, an could not pass u an opportunity to ask you to check out www.restorethebantinghomestead..com and set up a fundraising event to turn the homestad into a camp for diabetic youths. Since I m a ROLE MODEL that walk the walk and talk the talk,I am asking every diabetic, I can reach, globally that is living a healthy lifestyle, because of INSULIN, a Canadian medical miracle, by DRS.BANTING & BEST, July 30 1921, to STAND UP and BE COUNTED and support the project for a diabetic camp on this historicl site.I am also trying to prpmote the idea of forming small of equal numbers of seniors and youths, it would be a learning example teaching and learning TOGETHER. DR.MARTIN LUTHER KING,JR said that if you beleive, you will achieve. AMIGO clarence.haynes@sympatico.ca I am always open to good suggestions, keep in touch.
