One thing that you have to rember is that when you upgrade your pump you do not get a brand new worinty. so if you pump is 3 years old you will still only have 2 years of coverage on it. this is some thing you need to watch out for.

Day 2

Today is my first full day on the pump. Looked like I was having a great day got to play pond hockey for two hours with the boy’s, had a nice dinner with my wife for our 3 year wedding anniversary. Then about an hour after dinner all hell broke loose BG of 2.9 to 3.9 for next 2 hours. Had to disconnect the set Temp Basal for 40%- for next 4 hours.
Let hope tomorrow is a better day.

Hi Greg! I highly recommend the book "Pumping Insulin" by John Walsh. That helped me a lot when I started on the pump!

Well today is my last day for MDI....
I will be starting my pump @ 9:00am tomorrow morning. Wish me luck.
I received my pump in the mail on Dec. 24th. Merry Christmas to me, and I have been playing with it ever since (I think it is driving my wife nuts with all if its alarms going off every 15 mins.)
I am vary exited to get going on my pump but I am also a bit nervice and wondering now if I should have booked the day off work?? Well too late for that now.
I will try to keep this updated in the weeks and months to come everyone here have been a great help in motivating me.

Thanks Greg

Hi Greg,

Yes we have contacted the Ontario government and had a very good talk with head of the chronic disease management program; where diabetes is a high priority. We are still investigating the possibilities and one is the diabetes registry. I'll keep you posted on any updates.

After a pilot project the ongoing cost to the healthcare team is about $5-10/month/patient.

Recently we were asked to write an article on our plans and future directions. Please let me know and I will get you a draft copy.

If you have any ideas on helping move this forward is very much appreciated!

Thank you.

Hey Greg,
The pump is going great. STill trying to find my basal...but it is coming along. Now to answer your question...I had to send a "quote" from the pump company as to the supplies needed per month. It came out to something like 340 or something around that. I then had to call the insurance company and they told me to send in the quote. At the time I sent in the pump quote too, so I wouldn't have to wait for ADP. They then sent me a confirmation which I didn't understand so I called and they said they would approve the pump up to 6300 and all of the quoted pump supplies.

Then I had to have my endo write up a prescription for the supplies. I had her put the skin tac, cartridges, all the different insets ( i wasn't sure which one I would like), the battery cap, and the cartridge cap. I signed up for Diabetes Express Pump Now Pay later and sent the invoice from them along with the prescription to my pump company for reimbursement.

So the 200 dollars that ADP gives us will not be enough, therefore I can lean on my insurance company for the balance.

Hope that helps, if you have any other questions just ask.

Yup, I went thru ADP. Problems?? I think they have my setting too high, I have been having a lot of lows. Yesterday was the first good day. Also i hate being told what to do..lol, and i feel my CDE doesn't really listen and just follows the book. Also apparently she has misplaced my original ADP application for the quarterly funding for supplies. But I'm sure it will get worked out, I'll make sure..lol

As for the pump so far so good. Just waiting to get all my settings right.

Hi Greg! I was between Animas and Medtronic when I was choosing a pump and I chose Animas for a few reasons: 1) I'm incredibly accident prone and liked that the Animas 2020 was waterproof, 2) When I got a chance to use both of them, the Animas pump was just a bit easier for me to use because of the color screen, and 3) I really enjoyed the people I met from Animas. Don't get me wrong, the people from Medtronic were spectacular too, but I clicked a little bit more with the people from Animas and felt really comfortable going with their product. I'm really happy with my choice, but I know of people love their Minimeds as well. Good luck with it!
